this guy is really starting to be something else

saintfan 03-09-2012 02:50 PM

More copy and paste journalism. I'm starting to think Pat Yasinskas (or whatever the hell his name is) is actually writing all this stuff and publishing under assumed names.

dizzle88 03-09-2012 02:54 PM

Really don't know which stories to believe anymore, this is all getting way out of hand.
Everybody is blaming us saying that we didn't offer him enough, we offered him the chance to be the highest paid player in the league and it wasn't enough for him.

Look at Eli manning - 2 SB's now - he just restructured his contract to keep the giants below the cap and make their team better

Drew Brees - yeah he's a better QB than eli but he could really take a note out of Mannings book if he really cared about a "team friendly deal" what a joke

papz 03-09-2012 02:54 PM

They're just regurgitating what Duncan is speculating.

alexonfyre 03-09-2012 02:57 PM

I don't think he will sign the tender either, but I also don't think he will sit out of workouts for more than a week or something without signing the long-term deal

Beastmode 03-09-2012 03:05 PM

I said in the beginning no way Brees signs it. What Team would do that to their best player with some years left...they'll work it out. Both parties have a lot on the table. Saints need Brees to stay a viable contender. Brees is aiming for his likely last contract not to mention all those endorsements that will likely start drying up with the recent events. This situation, if not resolved will make him even less marketable. They'll get it done. Nobody wins if they don't.

SaintsBro 03-09-2012 03:08 PM

Even in the unlikely event IF it actually comes to pass that he sits out for the early offseason workouts, which I don't think will happen, I can almost guarantee you that Drew will be doing his own workouts and his own prep, on his own, just like he organized during the lockout --that's the kind of player he is, he's fiercely competitive and he's no dummy. He has six years of this offense under his belt so EVEN IF he sits out the nine workouts without pads, it will not be the end of the world as long as he signs a deal by camp....I seem to recall he did quite well without much by way of off season workouts last year, ahem, something about a record-breaking season?

W. Kovacs 03-09-2012 03:10 PM

I don't buy it, especially after watching this video...

Apparently Drew is not making comments to anyone. I trust the two guys in the video who actually have relationship with him over some reporter trying to come up with a story to make a name for themselves.

|Mitch| 03-09-2012 03:13 PM

Mike Florio is just trying to stir the pot... I've never liked that guy

SapperSaint 03-09-2012 03:58 PM

Thanks for posting the video Kovacs.

Like I have said, If Drew gets on WWL (at least) and says, "Don't worry Saints fans"; this crap all stops.

With some of the contract re-do's and more to come; maybe they are going to give Drew what he wants/deserves.

Florio is the one who wants our Superbowl forfeited.

Times like these convince me journalism has died and been replaced by carefully worded sensationalist speculation.

ScottF 03-09-2012 04:05 PM

I only see the word Ultimatum in the headline, and no quotes from Brees, or anyone. Article #276 that says NOTHING

Pete 03-09-2012 04:12 PM

Lets set up a collection "get your mind right fleurist" pot.
Find a Mike Tyson clone to handle up on ole' Florio

So, where is this supposed ultimatum? All that story did was repeat word for word what has been known since last summer. Of course he isn't going to sign the tag. I don't want him to. I want him to sign a long term deal, which he will.

Agreed - all except for the 'carefully' part anyway...

SapperSaint 03-09-2012 04:20 PM

This is nothing more that wanna be reporters trying to make us all go crazy and fight among one another.

It's a plot to destroy the Saints Nation by the media.

BGWhoDat 03-09-2012 07:15 PM

I did a post on this yesterday, if you guys would like to take a look. It kind of goes hand in hand with what the video said.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will get a long term deal

breesfan27 03-09-2012 07:34 PM

I don't believe any of this mularkey. Until I hear it out of Drew's mouth, it's all speculation by the media. We all know they like to talk out of their asses.

Belair57 03-09-2012 07:34 PM

This is a ****ty time to be a saints fan....besides the bounty gate, nicks most likely leaving, brees...UGGH.. This sucks.. stay or go..its a crappy off season...thats why I been staying away from here..maybe I better continue to stay away

Which in itself is an amazing achievement. I'm not sure that conversation is agreeable to watching. I am sure it is intermixed with the usual crap. But, like a train wreck, the anal vocalization will act as flame to which we, as your proverbial moths will gather.

Perhaps the Nature Channel will cover the event.

QBREES9 03-09-2012 07:44 PM

This is the problem with the Media today. No one knows who to believe. If you respect NFL N. Then just listen to the NFL N, if you think ESPN knows what their talking about just listen to them. I would only read what the TP has to say.

Drew will not say a word Tom Condon is the only one who will talk. I want to believe and I do believe that Drew will the Saints QB for a long time to come.

Come on! This is like riding the rapids down a category four. It'll scare the crap out of you and make you feel like it is all over, but in the end, it becomes an Pivotal experience which shapes your future.

Can you say ... Who Dat!!!

Speedy Ron 03-09-2012 09:15 PM

Marlboro Man 03-09-2012 10:00 PM

Where and exactly what is the ultimatum? I don't see anything in that article that is an ultimatum issued by Drew Brees.

st thomas 03-09-2012 10:22 PM

come together and pop there asres in the mouth.

Welcome to what the present day media has become.

WhoDat!656 03-09-2012 10:50 PM

Before seeing that video, I was as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a rocking chair factory!!

alexonfyre 03-10-2012 08:39 AM

I'm just curious as to the life of your work-a-day journalist in the sports world. I mean, when the bounty news came down did some super smart journalism/marketing guy say "Hey if we come down irrationally hard, we will see more views...nothing puts butts in seats on our website/TV channel/magazine than divisiveness, Exhibit A: Fox News."

And you have to go in and have an editor "punch up" your report of anything related to the Saints with some crazy extremist opinions?

Now, Florio and King are at a point in their careers where they write what they want, but sometimes I wonder about Sando and Yasinkas and them, on the bottom of the ESPN totem pole, how much of that is coming down from the top to generate ad revenue.

In response to the original post and article, Brees is in a hard spot here. I'm fairly certain he recognizes the need to be a part of OTA's for the success of the team. In addition to that, not working out is really his only leverage to get a long term deal at this point.

And another take on people who are upset that Brees didn't take less to keep the team together. Why can't Colston take less? Why can't Nicks take less? I think the focus is on Brees wanting market value for the best QB in the league, but it also appears that Nicks wants that and so does Colston. Why should Drew be expected to take less so that Nicks can top the deal Evans got? Shouldn't we also be mad at Nicks for not accepting a lower deal? or Colston?

NOLA54 03-10-2012 06:11 PM

Believe half of what you see & none of what you read.

Excellent points, vtiger! Why lay the blame on a player that has already played through a tremendously undervalued contract and leave the others that we see as "vital" without ant blame? Why should they get everything they want and have it be at the expensive of the one who is clearly the hero of our franchise's history?

Brees has been being paid far below the average decent QB for years.

And no one is giving any credit to Jimmy Graham, who is making the league minimum salary (525k), and hasn't said a peep about trying to get a new contract for himself while everyone else fights over millions. Probably because he realizes that he is still making more at the bottom rung than most people in the world will see in 10 years.

The guy came from nothing & made something of himself. Besides.....Graham knows he's up next year & his pay day will be significant. But to reiterate......Jimmy Graham is a class act & one of the best human beings to ever wear a fleur-de-lis. Last year, this guy sat down for about 30 min. with my 12 yr. old just talking. You don't see that much these days in the NFL. My son got an autograph & a great story to tell at school that day. BTW.....his words after were "Jimmy Graham is awesome. He's so much better than Reggie Bush." He still remembers the autograph snub from Reggie in 2006 at the airport Hilton, when Reggie told him he didn't sign autographs. LOL.

Man, that is awesome, and I wanna know how everyone seems to run into Saints players but me. I have lived in New Orleans my entire life and have yet to see a player anywhere but at a game...

I guess you have to be in the right place at the right time. The Reggie experience was in 2006 at the airport Hilton before the season started & we met Jimmy during Steve Gleason Day events.
