Only the football ignorant think it.
The NFL knows better, but it has to build up this "we care about our players" image as it preps to get its pants sued off by disgruntled ex players.
Most (say most because there are a few write sensible things) writers know too, but they are all about being sensational. The need hits on their web site.
In my opinion this makes the NFL and the writers supporting it a bit lower on the 'moral' totem pole than even the Saints they are throwing under the bus. I blame people, because people are stupid.
