Don't call it cheating

'Bounty' programs are inexcusable, but Saints did not gain competitive advantage

This was just the wrong year to be caught doing this...

With players suing the league 'for not doing enough to protect them'.

I just don't see the Saints being penalized as harsh or as much as everyone seems to think.

Because the league has painted itself into a corner, Goodell will have to impose some form of Draconian punishment to save face.

You and I both. He is the worst excuse for a commissioner the league has seen since it's inception.

I agree, but the next guy could be worse.

It will probably be somewhere around the day that there is an announcement of a press conference, and RG comes out to the mic and says, "We would like to announce a rule change that the owners and I have voted on during our last owners meeting. From now on, there will be no tackling during games. Instead, players who are designated by numbers to be people who are allowed to run the ball, will have flags attached to the side of their "shorts" with velcro and if either flag is removed by a defender, then the offensive play is over at that spot."

"Futhermore...there will be no blocking or physical contact at the line of scrimmage. Instead, the offensive linemen will be armed with imaginary rifles, and when confronted by a defender, he must aim his imaginary gun at the defender and holler, 'pow, pow, pow!', at which time the defender must honor this and immediately fall to the ground and play dead until he hears the whistle!"

"We feel these minor changes will protect the players and allow them to have long, healthy careers."

Pretty much sums it up in a nutshell.

Oh, and a whole lot of teams do it, not just the Saints.

If I'm the Saints and the fines and penalties and draft picks are too hurtful to the team, I'd take it to court and make the NFL prove intent. That would be very hard to do I'd think. Especially since we didn't get those hits and weren't the top team with fines for hits. I think this is just a purposful thing by Goodell and the NFL to purposely hurt the Saints organization for the next 10 years, because the draft picks alone will have implications for years to come. More than just the years we're accused of.
