2012 NFL Cap

NFL overall cap will be roughly $142M, the same number as 2011. The salary portion will be $120.6M, the rest are player benefits.

New Orleans Saints are an estimated $7-8 million under the cap.

In 2011 teams could "borrow" $2 million from future caps, in 2012, they can borrow $1.5 million.

What about the transfer of the unused cap from 2011 to the 2012 cap? I mean I thought that was included in the new CBA?

I mean, I know that teams have to submit an application for it to the league before the last game of the season, but I was wondering if there is any info about which teams did so, and for what figures?

We have a 4 million credit, so our cap number is actually 124 million.

We started roughly in the mid 90's (excluding Brees' option), so we do have some money to play with.

Thanks for the info!

5.2 million currently according to NBC Sports. The numbers I posted were from NOLA.com originally.

Does that include all the restructuring we did the last several days?

Link?

It does.

Team-by-team cap space, as of March 11 | ProFootballTalk

I'm not sure if they're holding the franchise tag number accounted for or not. I'd assume no, since Brees hasn't officially signed it yet.

FinSaint 03-12-2012 12:23 PM

Does that include the $4M carry over from last season's cap, which Danno brought to our attention?

It must not, because Triplett reported that we were over 8 million under the cap this weekend.

Ok, good, I was about to start hyperventilating.

Sources: Two teams lose cap space
Cowboys will lose $10 million, while the Redskins will be docked $36 million in cap space, sources said.

Dallas and Washington can split the cap loss over the 2012 and '13 seasons in whatever form they prefer, with $1.6 million each going to 28 other NFL teams, the sources said.
The New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders are the only two teams that will not receive a portion of the money.
ESPN didn't explain why the Saints and Raiders didn't receive any of the split money.

"The numbers is based on the 2012 unadjusted cap of $120.6 million, any 2011 carryover, any adjustments, and franchise tenders."

From the link. So the Saints have $5.2, including that, yes.

Now you have to deduct Daniel's cap.

Cutting Shanle, Herring, Vilma and Ellis frees up about 12 million more.

Ellis 6 mill
Vilma 3 mill
Shanle 2 mill
Herring 1 mill

^^^ This! There's not a name on that list I would keep, except maybe Vilma.

I'm the minority here; start Dunbar, goodbye Vilma

blackangold 03-12-2012 06:58 PM

This must include the 14mil tag on Drew (mo'money) Bree$... If I'm not mistaken we had roughly 100mil toward the cap before the tag and before Smith be a wonderful team player.

The 14mil puts it at 6mil under and Chase signing puts us around 5mil under... I may be mistaken however.
