Saints owner Tom Benson and coach Sean Payton went to New York to meet with Commissioner Roger Goodell. They presumably left G.M. Mickey Loomis in New Orleans because he has bigger fish to fry.

And one guy that he’s trying to get into the pan is receiver Marques Colston.

A league source tells PFT the two sides are working feverishly toward finalizing a new contract before Colston becomes a free agent at 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Colston, we’re told, badly wants to remain a Saint.

In six NFL seasons, Colston has 449 receptions for 6,240 yards and 48 touchdowns. He entered the league as a seventh-round pick in 2006.

I'm hoping this doesn't mean we've given up trying to fit Nicks under the cap.

Colston remaining a Saint is best for him and the team.

This is great news if true. Colston has handled himself like a true professional this offseason.

Hooray to negotiating with an agent other than Tom Condon, at least for now.
