I've been thinking about this a lot and here's the thing: even if Drew has invested wisely and has plenty of money for he and all his grandkids to retire, I still don't see why he shouldn't do everything he can to get as much money as he can.

I mean, I COULD live on $15,000/year up here in NY. I'd have to live in a studio apartment with 4 other guys and eat pb&j and ramen noodles for every meal but I could do it. But why should I if I don't have to? I'm not saying Drew is going to have to eat PB&J and Ramen, I'm just saying why should he work for a salary that is not representative of his value to the organization? Or at least TRY to get a salary that represents his value?

Of course he would be fine if he took the "lower" salary that has been offered to him but you know what? The saints organization isn't exactly going to go bankrupt by paying him the extra $5mil. he wants. I know there are salary cap issues but, come on...we all know that the cap numbers can be easily manipulated to make contracts work.

When you go to a car dealer do you just say "oh, the sticker price is $38,000? Yeah, that sounds about right...where do I sign?"

Of course not.

Give the guy time to try to get his money. If it gets to the point where he's holding out from OTAs or games and his contract negotiation starts to hurt the team then get mad...I'll be right there with you...

OK, glad to keep hearing more from Drew. Let's hope Manning will make his decision soon so we can get on with signing Drew. I'm certain Condon wants to get Peyton taken care of so he can concentrate on Drew. Drew will be on ELLEN on thursday.

Drew Brees has played out his 6 year contract. He is one of the best QB in the NFL. To me you are the best. He has won a Super Bowl, broken records, set records.

Drew Brees has done everything that was asked of him and more. He has Won.

Drew is getting older, were all one hit a way from the poor house. I want him to get every dime he can. He has been more then worth it.

We've had Drew for 6 years, I want him here for another 6 years and more. He and his family have been great for New Orleans. He has been great for the SAINTS WHO DAT !

Drew ( MONEY ) Brees. The Saints owe you a Raise and a big one at that.

It's more complicated than that Q...

If there were an infinite salary cap, the Saints would pay Drew whatever number he wrote down, but there ain't...Mickey is trying to pay Drew as much as possible without crippling the competitiveness of the rest of the team...Condon is turning down the "highest paid" contracts because he wants more guaranteed money, which pushes the cap figure up...
They'll figure something out eventually, but the Saints' cap situation is jamming everything up. The tag was only to keep Condon from shopping Drew around while Mickey figures out the rest of free agency and Condon can take care of his other clients.

Hey, Rocky, you a fan of Dead Man?

When he retires or if he ever gets injurred he would make one hell of a paper boy.

On the welcome mat from 60 yards while riding his bicycle at top speed! Dodging traffic.

Brees made it clear that he is uncomfortable working under the franchise tag. He noted that the only time he has done so was his final season in San Diego, which ended with a career-threatening injury that left him with few suitors in free agency.
Can someone explain the difference between playing under the tag in 2012 versus playing out the last year of his contract in 2011?

The risks are identical.

And oddly enough, we offered him a contract that would make him the highest paid QB in NFL history before both seasons started.

I would like that question answered. It will never happen. What does he want ?
