Our Saints just keep getting better!

I understand how other teams/fans, (media), hate the Saints so much!

Saints sign a battered QB that 31 other teams weren't interested and turn him into an NFL record-shattering machine!

The Saints lose Reggie Bush and sign Darren Sproles!!

The Saints lose Carl Nicks and sign Ben Grubbs!

And the Super Bowl is being played in New Orleans this year and the Saints are poised to make history again!!

TheOak 03-16-2012 07:40 AM

Proof that good decisions make a better team than good players.

Dallas - went out and bought good players.... see where they are now.
Eagles did the same thing...

SloMotion 03-16-2012 07:50 AM

IDK, I don't really hate the Saints so much, ... gotta' hand it to your front office on the Nicks/Grubbs thing, great example of how to keep pace with player turnover in today's NFL.

From a talent perspective only, I just don't see it so far this year though.

We only replaced a G with a G for.

It was the best case scenario regarding the G for a G thing. We lost the best G to some ridiculous offer and replaced him with the 2nd best free agent G for less money thus allowing us to do more things.

WhoDat!656 03-16-2012 08:26 AM

Carl Nicks is considered by most NFL analysts as the #1 OG in the league, and Ben Grubbs is considered #2.

He blocked for Ray Rice, so he knows how to run block.

I see it as a cheaper, parallel signing!

Is there an echo in here?

Keep getting better? As a sports fan in general Grubbs signing saves money and replaces Nicks with a top guard in the league so good move Salute to Mickey Loomis, LB needs to be addressed, DT bring Rogers back hes big, lost Meachem I don't hate him for it the offense is an onslaught he gets his touches yeah he dropped passes just like everyone else on the wr corps he's got a Super Bowl Ring and he just got paid hes Charlie Sheen right now goes to a team nice weather Good QB with Rivers.17 was a burner made some of the biggest plays I've seen in Washington. Hes gonna go off with Philip Rivers. Whos replacing him? Arrington? Is he gonna finally do something? Joe Morgan is he ready to go and healthy? Whos out there available I dread seeing Andy Tanner on Sundays! So to say they got better I don't know about that, we may loose a corner in 22, lost 17, Franklin is gone Rogers is gone and MOST OF ALL WE STILL GOT SCOTT SHANLE! Whom ever is,the, replacement for those players needs to to be an upgrade. We had no pass rush haven't for a long time now we need to get after it on the Dline
the safety position needs to play better to many big plays given up when you have an offense that lives in the endzone if these are corrected then I would say the Saints got better but we're months away from the hall of fame game and opening day which I hope is the Giants in NY so I can go to the Game!

jeanpierre 03-16-2012 09:07 AM

Grubbs coming to the Saints takes a good guard and makes him better once Brees rejoins the team...

It's kinda like my kid's video game - she's got this bad @$$ character that finds a magic hat and the hit points and damage points geaux up 50%...

Brees is magic...

Beastmode 03-16-2012 09:23 AM

Stocking a team with FAs never works. The Saints have done well with their FA's but they also have a good mix of players they build on which is critical if you want to have a good team. I'm glad the Saints don't have a lot of cap room. Too much means a team is rebuilding which doesn't happen in a sytem like the Saints. Tampa is signing a lot of good players but the odds of that creating more W's is not in their favor.

We haven't lost a step so far. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

True, we haven't upgraded a single position... yet.

I do have faith that it will happen though.

But the Saints haven't de-graded either.

IMO, Ben Grubbs in New Orleans will be more effective than Carl Nicks in Tampa.

One position the Saints ugraded tremendously was DC!!

I think that will go down as the biggest new addition of the whole off-season!

xan 03-16-2012 02:08 PM

we won't really know if there's a playoff contender here until we see a defensive signing.

skymike 03-16-2012 04:02 PM

2nd piece of happy news i've had all week.

Funny My wife and I had a discussion yesterday after Megatron signed his deal over dinner with family here in Houston. She is a football fan, but more fanatic than enthusist. I told her I would trade two of Brees for one of Calvin Johnson, she immdiately replied with her hard NO accent and best " you trader" voice Hmm who gon throw em the ball then, to which i replied I can go get Ryan Leaf to come out of retirement take two step drops and hoist that "bi#$%" up to Megatron. My sister and law who is also a diehard saints fan was in the middle of drinking her Zinfindel and it came flying out she was laughing so hard I think Zinfindel actually came out of her nose!!!! I said that all to say we are admirers of you guys progress as well as our own, let's toast to franchises that have come a mighty long way, but not with Zinfindel, I'll take a light beer!!!

However, we have never been run by Matt Millen...but we don't have to live in or near Detroit...but we do have to deal with cap issues and stupid bounty crap....

I guess it all sort of evens out in the end.

http://smileys.on-my-web.com/reposit...rinking-48.GIF ... this Guinness is for you a/cat, to the Saints getting better & the Lions meeting them in the NFC Championship one day ... oh, what a glorious day that will be ... to the continued success of both, may Drew's arm never fail him and may there never be an overthrown ball Calvin can't reach. Bud'mo!

Dinner & football, two of my favorite subjects as well ... made 'Breesy Cheesy Beef & Mac' last night from the recipe I got on B&G and it is hands-down the BEST mac & cheese on the planet. No wonder Drew eats it before a game, it puts you in a great mood ...

Well, he did say in one of the Dick's Sporting Goods spots that he always eats the same thing before each game, so maybe you're on to something here SloMo. ;-)

Yep, after eating that, I was ready to throw the ol' pigskin around, get franchised and then sign a multi-million dollar, long-term contract.

Actually this off-season, at least to the date, I'd say the Saints have lost ground in their division. Bucs, Falcons, and Panthers all have closed the gap a bit IMO. Still not sure anyone is better than the Saints but I do think if the season started tomorrow they might have improved less than anyone else in the division.

Marlboro Man 03-18-2012 06:03 AM

I don't think Morgan was really hurt, just stashed on IR because we knew we would lose Colston and or Meachum or Devery this and next year so we prepared for it. We've got Aarington and Morgan to replace Meachem & Henderson next year. If we can get Hill I believe his name is in the second round and get Lofton & the LB from the Seahawks or keep Dunbar we're looking good going into the draft.

I'm not convinced they've closed the gap at all. Tampa signing Vincent Jackson is the only significant signing by any of our rivals. But they counter that by signing a horrible CB. Walter football said it was the worst signing in NFL history.

I think Atlanta got worse.

Carolina shored up some spots but lost Bernadeau (OG/C) and Dan Conner, and still haven't signed anyone of note.

FinSaint 03-18-2012 08:50 AM

Like Danno said, I don't think the other NFC South teams have made any significant gains toward catching the Saints - Tampa has made the biggest moves for sure, but it'll still be Freeman throwing the ball to Jackson, case closed.
