Any news on David Hawthrone?

He is suppose to be visiting today and I haven't heard anything on him. Has anyone else heard anything?

He probably signed but no one bothered to post it.

It might be like the Ben Grubbs deal, if he did sign. Might take another day to get all the details worked out

That's the kind of thinking I'm looking for. Please please please give us another MLB'er that is also our captain.

With Lofton coming over tomorrow (or today) I don't think they'd offer Hawthorne a formal contract if it is a either-or type of a situation.

Exactly. The Saints are exploring a few options right now... But here's some news: I'm still hoping the Saints sign the damn guy!

Hawthorne and Wimbley would make more sense than Hawthorne and Lofton.

|Mitch| 03-16-2012 09:19 PM

Wimbley is goona want too much money I think...

jeanpierre 03-16-2012 09:20 PM

Lofton and Wimbley would be better, if we can afford both - and we still have Drew's contract to contend with as well as this little problem of Defensive Tackles...

I agree, I've heard him called a slightly less expensive Mario Williams.

Yeah, but signing two expensive MLBs still doesn't make any sense.

Hawthorne can also play weakside and I honestly believe Lofton would signify Vilmas release... I just don't see the money available for Wimbley, but I don't have a say in it. Trust in Loomis

If Spags had his way Wimbley would be the #1 5-star guy on the market for the Saints right now. As it is, there are more cost-effective options. If only we could afford that champagne diet.

But if Loomis can work this deal out and get Brees his money he might get to keep the GM job forever!!!!

Cut Scott Shanle, cut Ellis, Cut Franklin, theres room to make a Wimbley bid. I think either way it goes your moving Jorden inside to be a permant DT because we really don't know what Romeus is capable of ( Gonna be a beast) So why not!!!

I think it isn't going to be a case of signing both, but the one who suits Spags' schemes better and is willing to sign the contract which makes more sense from a financial standpoint.

I honestly think it'll be Hawthorne, since Lofton seems to have other suitors as well.

Yep, keep bringing them in until one agrees to terms, then cancel the rest of the visits. Or in our case with LB's, keep bringing them in until 3 sign, then cancel the rest and cut some folks.
