Is Roman Harper a dirty player?

Is Roman Harper a Dirty Player? - Canal Street Chronicles

Maverick2299 03-19-2012 12:40 PM

Yes!......and I love it!!!!!

Rugby Saint II 03-19-2012 01:09 PM

No. But he sure brings the wood every time. He's our hardest hitter and if someone gets knocked out of the game.. Get Over It! Crap occurs.......

|Mitch| 03-19-2012 01:15 PM

I don't see Harper as a dirty player, hard hitting and intensely competitive is the words I'd use.

He's not like say "Brent Grimes" of the Falcons, who on just about every tackle spears with his helmet always aiming high... Or the numerous Steelers who get fined quite often for illegal hits, now that's dirty...

Ashley 03-19-2012 01:19 PM

no

FinSaint 03-19-2012 01:19 PM

He plays on the borderline, but in general I don't think that he is a dirty player, although some of his hits might be.

TheDeuce 03-19-2012 02:33 PM

Border line, but I lean towards yes. Lots of action after the play with Roman.

darstep 03-19-2012 02:45 PM

No. Harper is just solid at the point of contact.
The fact that he leads us in tackles says something about him getting to the ball.
That implies that he's around the ball even if he's a step late or two.
Dirty player just doesn't fit what Harper has done or is trying to do.

QBREES9 03-19-2012 03:40 PM

Not at all !

RaginCajun83 03-19-2012 03:53 PM

Nope, the media would want you to think otherwise

Danno 03-19-2012 04:13 PM

Havent you guys heard? We're all dirty, except for Grubbs, who just arrived.

But I'm sure he's in the cheapshot film room learning how to cheapshot opponents kneecaps as we speak.

The Dude 03-19-2012 04:20 PM

I am with others who say he is borderline. Hiis hits are vicious. I would venture to say he is one of the hardest hitters in the league.

Ditto.

I don't like Harper as a Saints player; while I respect my B/G Brothers to have their own views, I think he's overrated and lacking in skills as a complete defensive back...

Now, that said, I don't think he's a dirty player...

And, the video of the late shot on Carolina WR Steve Smith which gets shown in the bountygate retread clips is bull**** "journalism" that is shown out of context - Smith is Public Punk No. 1 and was asking for it that day...

I actually support Harper for the late hit in showing some heart and pride and not allowing the punk named Smith to show up the team...

breesfan27 03-19-2012 05:52 PM

Not only no, but HELL NO!!

UK_WhoDat 03-20-2012 03:39 PM

He either is, or he isn't.

He isn't.

alleycat_126 03-20-2012 04:13 PM

Not a dirty player, but an impact player

OldMaid 03-20-2012 06:31 PM

Since this has happened with the Saitns, well, what, when are their tackles in bounds, legal?
It seesm as if the Saints will not be allowed to tackle anyone at anytime .
I do not support or agree with this bounty the amounts of money, and how much for what condition the opponent was left in during that point in the game.

Did the Saints play dirty? When? How? Who? What games? Were they not flagged during the game? How many times? What plays? What players were flagged? Fined? Suspended during games like Shu of Detriot?
I want answers to these questions. Proof of this bounty being put into effect. Show it. Proove it. Review film from Jan. 2012 back to August 2008. Was it talk, locker room stuff, but not really ever put into effect? What palyers did the Saints cart off? Wheelchair bound? Put out of the game? One player. Wel, he was not actually a player, but a coach. One of the Saints ran into Saints' Coach Sean Payton and the man was out of that game and one or two after. He had to have surgery. Was on crutches. In a wheelchair, well, cart. He was carted off the field.

|Mitch| 03-20-2012 06:37 PM

well there were a few late hit flags in the past year or two, that I can remember. And Harper has been fined a couple of times. And the only injuries that I can remember were Favre in the '09 NFC championship and Warner in playoffs same year...

Pete 03-20-2012 06:42 PM

I love when a player knocks the day lights out of an opponent!Isn't that football?

alexonfyre 03-20-2012 06:46 PM

I don't think people know what a dirty player is. A dirty player is someone like Cortland Finnegan, or Suh, as soon as the cameras turn, or the referee turns around they are tripping people or stepping on their feet, generally trying to beat people by bending or breaking the rules instead of by being stronger, faster or smarter. Suh is a strange one, because a lot of the time he is stronger, faster, and/or smarter than the other players, but he still pulls a lot of cheap ****. The real dirty players do most of their bad deeds away from prying eyes, and you only notice if you watch them live or somehow have access to game film. The "remember-me" shots from 2009 were pretty dirty, since they were designed to take advantage of the fact that players won't get called for being in unstoppable motions (like diving) in order to intentionally deliver late hits.

So no, I don't see Roman Harper as a dirty player, I've watched him a number of times and he just hits like a truck for an SS, and people get surprised by that.

But what player is not an impact player? They are supposed to be. Are the Saints not suppose to be impact players?
Goodness knows the Saints defense have been carried by the offense for many games this past season.

I am not picking on you, alleycat.
I am just trying to understand the Saints' bounty thing. Where? Who was it? Etc.

I am really anxious now to see how the NFL will fine and ban the Saints. Based on what proof? Someone said to the the NFL....
People say stuff all the time. That doesn't make it true. People acuse people all the the time on things. Doesn't make it true.

"Bounty Hunting"?! Compare a bounty hunting hit to a non-bounty hunting hit! Keep in mind those guys actually playing the game beat out millions who are home watching. When you are of the mindset to earn a starting position in the NFL you are the type of athlete capable of stopping another man in his tracks. If the hit causes injury so be it, get another to replace him. If you have ever run at full speed then instantly be stopped in your tracks you will know what "bounty hunters" do and HOW they make their money.
This latest media hype is nothing more. What does $1,000-$1,500 per hit on a cetain player matter to an NFL player making X-millions? This whole story is crapolla. To make the team you will hit harder than all others in camp and only then will you earn the respsect of your teammates. This "concern" had to stem from pee-wee league football mother. For those of you old enough to remember the great Bubba Smith, then you will recall the crowd chanting " Kill Bubba, Kill"!

This is one quote from a Colts 'fan. See Colts Fourm.
Some people have outlandish things to say like: Suspened Loomis and Sean Payton for some games, fine Saints 1 million dollars, ban Greg Williams from the NFL, have Saints forfeit SB win to Colts or at least have * placed besides that tainted SB win that the Saints stole...

jlouhill 03-20-2012 08:46 PM

Well with all this bounty crap, the new rules, the excessive penalties and fines and what not in today's NFL. This guy and several others, Lott, Tatum, Butkus, etc would have had to have second jobs to suplement their lack of income.

So, no, Harper isn't dirty. A hard hitter? Yes. Borderline at times? Yes. Dirty? No. I'll take players with his intensity any day on the football field. These guys tend to play the game as it was meant to be played.
