Duece fell to the Saints on draft day because he had a history of being injury prone in college . He came into the league at or around 221 pounds and suffered through some injuries at the lower weight . He added some bulk in the off season and made it through the season with no major injury setbacks and rushed for over 1600 yards . If Duece is injury prone at the 228 range it is alot to ask ............

Why would he be injury prone at 228? He came in at 221...he played a year at 230 and ran for nearly 1400 yards...and played another season at 238 and ran for 1600 yards. As silly as it sounds, he was more effective in short yardage at 230 as evidenced by his TD difference in the two years. I know he had about half of what he put up the year before. Haslett\'s fate lies in Deuce being healty so i think he knows what he is doing. I dont know where the injury prone topic even came from? Maybe i am just missing something.

Aaaaaayyyyyy!!

Maybe so , the reason Duece bulked up ....

In April, McAllister vowed that he would be better prepared to tackle
the challenge of being the main man in the Saints running attack
after being plagued by injuries in college
.

Duece at 230 lbs broke 10 runs for 20 or more yards
Duece at 238 lbs broke 16 runs for 20 or more yards .

Despite the additional longer yardage totals , some Saints braintrust says :

The Saints think a slimmer McAllister will reduce the wear on his legs and add a step to his breakaway speed.
I have too ask :

Haslett\'s fate lies in Deuce being healty so i think he knows what he is doing.
Is this the same Haslett that knew an injured Brooks was better then a healthy Delhomme ???

He might have more runs over 20 yard last year, but 2 years ago, he led the league in 50+ yard runs and had more breakaway speed and still had power. I still remember when he ran over Keion Carpenter like it was nothing. Plus, he had a bunch of long runs called back due to holding penalties. 2 years ago Juran Bolden would have never caught up to him and stripped the ball like he did last year. Duece\'s yardage might have been up last year only because he was either limited or didn\'t play the last 4 games 2 years ago due to an ANKLE injury which had nothing to do with his playing weight.

Damn...good point Boogro...Bolden never catches Deuce at 230 but had no problem catching him and stripping him at 238. I also forgot about all the long runs Deuce had called back because of penalties....that had to be at least 350 yards worth wiped away by penalties.

Look, I remember watching the games that year and the announcers saying that he led all NFL rushers in that category. And no I don\'t have numbers on me. Believe me or don\'t believe me, if all you are going to say that somebody\'s weight effects them being prone to injury, then I guess Shawn Andrews should have stayed at 400 lbs. I think he would have a hard time of getting injured cause 400 lbs is a lot more than 345. Get real

Ist , 3rd or 8th game of the season ??? Do you remember the part of the season ??

Duece suffered a shoulder injury in his college days , bulking up in the upper body to absorb the blows is not an uncommon practice . Especially if a player is looking to pound the skin into the heart of a defense and leave a lasting impression .

Jamal lewis is 5\' 11\" and listed at 240 , If Deuce played at 230 -235 he would be right in his comfort zone with plenty of power and speed ...

just because one person has success at one weight doesnt mean everyone else will. Deuce is not Jamal Lewis, Deuce is better off at 225-230 than he is at 240. The breakaway speed just isnt there at 240.

He sure had a hell of a season last year at his about 235 weight. If he can stay healthy all year at 238 that is better than missing 3 or 4 games because of injury at 225-230.
