Saints | McAllister Asked To Trim Down - from www.KFFL.com
Mon, 12 Apr 2004 11:07:08 -0700

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports New Orleans Saints RB Deuce McAllister has been asked to lose 10-15 pounds during the offseason by team officials. The Saints think a slimmer McAllister will reduce the wear on his legs and add a step to his breakaway speed. McAlister played at about 238 pounds last season.

Can you say "If it aint broke, don't fix it"? :(

Some downfield blocking by the recievers probably wouldn\'t hurt the look of his breakaway speed either.

It (the team) is broke. McAllister is not.

The Saints broke it when they let T-Rex get away. Now they\'re just adding insult to injury. He\'ll need that extra 10 to 15 pounds this season on those 4-1 0-hole dives that we couldn\'t pick up last year. I say let him keep the 10 pounds - he\'ll already be missing about 240 lbs. in front of him.

I believe it was the Saints who addressed the media about extending Deuce\'s contract publicly and not the other way around like many players do nowadays. The Saints know that Deuce is by far their best player and they are gonna take care of him monaterily without a doubt. They just want him to be at his best when the season rolls around.

That\'s exactly what I meant. It seems that when a player adds or loses weight something goes wrong. Donovan McNabb added weight last season and it took almost half the season for him to adjust.
McAllister had a great season at his current weight and it seems foolish to mess with that formula.

Duece added the extra muscle , to take the pounding that would keep him in the game and get him into the secondary over the likes of Warren Sapp .

Haslett does not seem a little fickle to you Boogro ???

McAllister adds Beef

Clipped from the Advocate Online:

Apparently, New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister didn\'t
take anything for granted when he was handed the starting job
following the trade that sent Ricky Williams to the Miami Dolphins on
March 8.

McAllister added 12 pounds of muscle to his 6-foot, 1-inch frame
during the off-season and still showed off the speed this week that
coaches and scouts saw when they made him the team\'s first-round
draft pick in 2001. The former Ole Miss star will play at about 230
pounds this season.

\"I\'m proud of what Deuce has accomplished this off-season,\" Saints
coach Jim Haslett said during the three-day minicamp that ended
Saturday. \"He\'s stronger and he looks like an NFL running back.

\"Even though he put on more than 10 pounds, he looks just as fast,\"
Haslett said. \"I\'m more proud of what he\'s done in the weight room
than what he\'s done on the field.\"

In April, McAllister vowed that he would be better prepared to tackle
the challenge of being the main man in the Saints running attack
after being plagued by injuries in college.

\"It\'s not a position I haven\'t been in before,\" he said. \"I did it in
college and I prepared myself to be the No. 1 guy last year even
though it didn\'t happen.\"

That article pointed out that Deuce was gonna play at about 230. The article about Deuce slimming down had him dropping 10 pounds from his 238 pound frame. Haslett wants him back to pretty much where he was. Deuce is the ultimate pro and the consummate team player and all he wants to do is win. Haslett is not being fickle, he wants Deuce to get back to where he was 2 years ago....around the 228-232 range. I dont think that is too much to ask.
