Saints should sit the season out in protest.

Goodell wants to levy a draconian punishment, the Saints should reply in kind.

It would cost the league millions of dollars in lost revenue!

That's just plain silly. We got off light. Let's just move on and win it all.

neugey 03-21-2012 12:36 PM

I'm not sure about that, but I certainly don't think NOLA should be expected to host the Super Bowl under these circumstances. Talk about awkward!!! Maybe we can flip flop years with Miami or another city.

papz 03-21-2012 12:40 PM

Uhh... no.

No again.

And uhh... no again.

Basically,

What's the big deal? So Payton won't be coaching this season. We still have the team to beat.

Got off light?

You really consider SP being suspended for a %$E%$ YEAR is light!!

Is Goodell going to go after all the other teams that admitted they ARE paying for fumble recoveries, sacks, interceptions, etc.?

arsaint 03-21-2012 12:41 PM

The way we need to respond in kind is to win the flaming Superbowl in our own building and kick everyone's ### in the process, running up the score whenever possible.

What's the big deal? Are you serious? This is unwarranted. Period. This isn't about the integrity of the game. This is about a looming court case. Are you really so glossed over with your cup half-full that you don't see that?

EVERYBODY CHILL OUT

EVERYBODY ELSE, PEOPLE ARE GOING TO FREAK OUT OVER THIS AND IT'S WARRANTED!

OK, now everyone CHILL

AsylumGuido 03-21-2012 12:45 PM

Sorry, I simply do not see this as insurmountable. Y'all can slink back into the past and pity yourselves if you wish, but I'm going to keep looking ahead and expect the best from this team. I have no doubt the players and remaining coaches will rally around this situation and play their asses off.

"This" isn't. What the NFL has become under Roger Goodell is. I can see you either don't get that or you don't care. I care. It's just sad is what it is.

|Mitch| 03-21-2012 12:49 PM

I guess this is the answer to http://blackandgold.com/saints/42368...otivation.html

Nothing left to do but go out there and try to win the whole ****ing thing!

This, I don't care how few points the opposing team has. Light em up like a pinball machine. Stomp on the throat of the competition all the way to SB and let Drew lift that trophy in Goodell's face and him have to congratulate us!

NO Quarter!

That's what I'm looking for now:
...all the other teams that had pay for perfomance pots around the league.
A host of other players/coaches have admitted to rewards and prizes beyond contract monies.
Now it's time to spread the punishment to all who drank from the cup.
The investigation as I have read was not confined to the Saints camp.
Surely, others have been found guilty of the same infraction.

Conflict of interest.

How can you give the Saints the death penalty (or at least by my view, a pretty stiff penalty) and suspend the coach for the year, the GM for the important part of the year, then have the audacity to keep the Super Bowl in our gym?!

It's evident that the NFL wants to do what it can to shoot down the Saints for the 2012 season as punishment. Will I expect us to get fair treatment from the refs this season? Most definitely not. Goodell has quite a bit of David Stern in him.

Seems like we're in the minority of people not freaking out. The punishments really aren't bad, I was personally expecting worse. As a I said in one of the other threads, losing Payton for a year stinks but we'll be fine with the players and coaches we currently have. Plus, how awesome will it be when Goodell has to hand us the Lombardi trophy in New Orleans at the end of the season. It will be the greatest awkward moment in the history of sports. Just the thought of him having to congratulate us in front of millions of viewers and hand us the trophy has me smiling. Don't worry Saints fans, things are going to be fine. Who Dat!

Euphoria 03-21-2012 01:54 PM

I guess you fail to realize that the penalties for the players aren't out yet.

We won't have enough players to put 11 guys who play D out there. This is a loss season.

I think in protest Benson shouldn't send the team to games... don't show up.

Euphoria 03-21-2012 01:55 PM

The penalties aren't bad... you guys need to get off the crack yall are smokin'

No one expected these penalties being SP out for a year.

The players haven't even got their penalties yet.

I am ok with the draft picks but geez a HC out for a year over this. BS.

How do I do that?

Euphoria 03-21-2012 01:57 PM

I am in favor of this but I love my damn team no matter who is coaching and playing. Unless Benson gets pissed about it and decides not even send the team to send the team to the games whats the point. Players are going to want to work and we may have to get some scabs to play to fill a roster for a game.

Going to be hard not to watch the Bronco's though.

I support the Mannings and watch the Mannings since they are homegrown.

So yeah I'll be watching the Bronco's.

JoanieNTX 03-21-2012 03:23 PM

I agree that we need to sit this season out in protest. I would do it, as a fan. Just to make them lose $$$ and show Goodell that he can't put fines on a team that is not there. What a bum!

claus808 03-21-2012 03:34 PM

Sitting the season out would hurt the Saints and New Orleans more than do good.

Why has this post not been deleted? What pill has everyone taken? Get your heads out of your @sses

Ya think a HC sitting out a year doesn't hurt the Saints... you think 22 other players who are going to have to sit out some games to... isn't going to hurt us?

Its only a year to sit out so what bite the bullet. Team start losing people won't fill up the dome, that is losing money.

Look I am all for fines and some games but a whole season... that is nuts. Season is a wash. Last years Colts here we come. We the fans suffer for the penalties that who suffers the most in all this.

Pete 03-21-2012 03:50 PM

No, we'll show the NFFNL we don't need no stinkin coach to WIN A SUPERBOWL! Man wouldn't that be a royal slap in goOdellz frikkin face!FK him man!!!!!!!!!It's bullshît and that's it I don't care what you say or who the fk ever else tries to justify this!Bullshît that is all!:pissed:

You're forgetting the 22-27 players that are going to be suspended as well aren't you. The last I checked we may need a few of them.

claus808 03-21-2012 04:06 PM

Where do you get from my post me saying anything about 22 other players sitting out not hurting us? I'm with you on this season is going to be a wash. Don't quite understand your response?

I was saying why would the Saints sit out and not play? It would hurt the Saints and the city of NO a lot more than the NFL.

Yeah, and then the selfrighteous ***** will fine us for that too because we hurt the other teams feelings by intentionally running up the score.

Pete 03-21-2012 05:43 PM

I wouldn't put it past him the least little bit.In his own rabbit azz mind he is the NFL's savior;Yes we deserved to be penalized but c'mon man taking our coach from us for a year is just utter :bs:

And yes I still believe in a Championship this year!I'm posting from the 7th floor as I type might I add. Please don't categorize me as crazy, insane is just fine for "Pete!"

On a serious note I am currently running a bounty system on godelle.Off with his HED!WTF:doh:

dsrdsrdsr 03-21-2012 05:46 PM

Sitting out the season wouldn't hurt the Saints. It would kill them. There would be 31 teams in 2012 and a new LA franchise in 2013.

Refusing the allow the Superbowl in NO wouldn't stop the Superbowl happening. There are 30 other stadia ready to go. It would just mean it would be a long, long time before the NFL decided to come back.

OldMaid 03-21-2012 06:32 PM

You cannot hurt yourself, make your madness like a 2 yr. old.

Saints need to:
Sign Brees to a good two-yr. contract.
Saints coaching staff and players, unit and get out there and win. WIN. Any given Sunday is a game to win for any given team.
No one can say, even though the media and some fans have said, Peyton Manning and Bronocs won SB 2013. Really? Same media and fans said Tebow and the Broncos won SB 2012. Well, somebody tell me what numbers to pick for this week since you can foretell the future.LOL!!!
Saints fans, keep your tickets.
Support.
Benson and the Saints need to show better than the they can tell.
I do not agree with a bounty. Trying to cripple players. Nasty plays. Unsportsmanlike conduct.
The Saints heads involved needed to be punished.
This punishment is really severe.

Go Saints GO!!!!

frankeefrank 03-21-2012 06:39 PM

Asylum Guido you are on some good drugs man. Your logic is flawed. If a HC wasn't important to a team's success, he wouldn't make 7.5 million a year. You can cry for a rally all you want but the bottom line is, the team got screwed today. I don't see how the Saints come back from this with the current characters in place. It will take too long and in the NFL, your time is short. Injuries and old age are supposed to close windows on teams championship chances. Not suspensions.
I think the players should sit out.

AlaskaSaints 03-21-2012 07:25 PM

claus808 - time to change your avatar, bud.

I would just be happy, given what has been dealt, if ALL Saints fans boycotted NFL merchandise for the year. There's plenty of knock-off jerseys available. Knock-off hats, Tee-shirts, etc.

The NFL will not see $1 of my money this year.

THAT is how you hurt the NFL henceforth.

Alaska

Cruize 03-21-2012 07:31 PM

The Saints will win The Super Bowl or it will be a post Katrina type meltdown. We'll definitely see what the team is made of. I wish Gruden, Cowher, or even Shottenheimer would sign on for a year.

niteadept 03-21-2012 07:43 PM

If we forfeit the year, you hurt so many of us "good" people who simply work every day to make a living and you definitely hurt the economy of New Orleans. I will continue to support my Saints and secretly wish the bounty would have actually hurt someone. Then this BS could be justified. Thank god Benson doesn't allow that clown of a comish to live in his backpocket, unlike Kraft who seems to like him there.... I'm with Jindal on this one #unapologeticSaintsFan #whodat
