Possible Interim Head Coach for the Saints

CBSSports.com is reporting that Coaches Carmichael or Spagnuolo may become acting head coach with Sean Payton suspended for the entire 2012 season and potential interim head coach Joe Vitt suspended six games for the bounty program.

Let's see what Spags can do with a team full of talent!

crawgator 03-21-2012 12:59 PM

I say give it to Spags... He has experience, and Carmichael can focus on the offense.

arsaint 03-21-2012 01:01 PM

Carmichael would probably be my choice since he's already had a taste AND is not new to the Saints.

That being said, I expect the NFL to announce that Roger Goodell will be the interim head coach of the Saints and Supreme ruler of the universe.

He will studiously review Madden 99's playbook and announce the upcoming Saints gameplan each Friday before the close of business via a random ESPN reporter/reporterette.

|Mitch| 03-21-2012 01:02 PM

lol!

dizzle88 03-21-2012 01:03 PM

I'm sure Spags really wants to be here now all this has happened.....i will be suprised if he doesn't jump ship after one year, this is a real mess.

If we can't get brees signed either this is going to be a crap season

WhoDat!656 03-21-2012 01:03 PM

I bet Gruden got a 'woodie' thinking of the Saints calling him!!

Marlboro Man 03-21-2012 01:05 PM

Our boys need to get their heads right and go out and ANNIHILATE EVERY TEAM WE PLAY NEXT SEASON!!!

Nah, Supreme Ruler of the Universe is that POS in the White House, or is it Grand Poo Bah or Emperor or something?

SaintPauly 03-21-2012 01:13 PM

.................... Who gives a damn about who's in the white house right now? Really? Can we get a "political room" opened somewhere, so this sh#$ doesn't spill over into the Saints talk? Seriously.....

darstep 03-21-2012 01:13 PM

Spagnuolo with Carmichael taking care of the offense.
That would kind of raise the bar for our defense.
We know what the offense can do.

Spags'Goatee 03-21-2012 01:15 PM

Spags is okay, if he was named HC, he may be a bit conservative. I know as a Rams fan that there were rumors he did that with Shurmur when he was OC.

TheOak 03-21-2012 01:19 PM

Can we dovert all funds allocated to paying Payton to Brees and sign the man? :-)

We don't have the play-book for a conservative game-plan, sorry...

John Clayton just said the same thing on SportsCenter. Great minds think alike, apparently. :)

Euphoria 03-21-2012 01:37 PM

Gruden... hmmm.

Spags should get the node I don't know if Benson would write a check to Gruden and although Gruden and Payton are friends he can ask Gruden to step in and handle it.

Nope, you can't. Coaches pay doesn't count against the cap.

Rugby Saint II 03-21-2012 01:56 PM

They just want someone to implement the program. Spags will run the defense autonomously and Carmichael will do the same with the offense.
That leaves special teams.......gulp!

NOLA54 03-21-2012 02:01 PM

Carmichael now! Try keep things as normal as possible. Spags has enough to contend with working with the defense.

lee909 03-21-2012 02:09 PM

I don't think any team is better set up to get through a suspension like this.
Just let Spags and Carmichael do there thing and we will get by.
Just need the players to close shop to the media and use this to fire themselves to the Superbowl.

Euphoria 03-21-2012 02:13 PM

I rather someone come from outside to take the HC duties. Just as a game manager, but letting the OC and DC call their shots.

FinSaint 03-21-2012 02:16 PM

Spags is the right guy to be the interim IMO, because he has the mindset and ability to lead the team through these challenging times - let Carmichael handle the offense.

I think that the Saints are really fortunate to have brought in a guy like Spags, can you imagine handing over the keys to someone like GW?

QBREES9 03-21-2012 02:34 PM

Pete Carmichael

Archie comes out of retirement
Says he's tired of the ribbing from his sons
Daddy got a ring too

Saintswrath 03-21-2012 02:56 PM

Well every other team fan especially the failcons are in tears of joy over all of this and hoping this will keep us from competing.
Their also saying of course we will blame every lose on not having a headcoach

Halo 03-21-2012 02:59 PM

I think our Coordinators have a job to do. I think the team would do well with someone to rally around.

You'll laugh, but I would try to get coach Jim Mora (senior) to come out of retirement for one year to help the team along and coordinate with Coach Payton behind the scenes.

jeanpierre 03-21-2012 03:10 PM

Archie Manning. Archie should have his own ring.

As soon as I heard I thought of JG. I am wondering??? Also, can we bring someone in?

saintfan 03-21-2012 03:41 PM

You know what would be great?

I have talked with Mr Benson about the insanely harsh ruling against his team by the NFL and Roger Goodell. I will be coaching the New Orleans Saints for the fee of 1 dollar until Sean Payton is allowed to return.

You bet we can bring someone in!

Someone is suspended doesn't mean you can't have someone take their spot until they return. Same with Vilma we need to fill his spot on the field.

How about Bill Cowher instead if they were to bring in an established veteran?
