What's this going to do to OUR TEAM?

So what do you all think? How will we fare? Will we come back stronger? Will be able to weather the storm? I can't even think straight right now, so imagine what our beloved team is going through. What to do now....

Euphoria 03-21-2012 02:24 PM

Can you say "LAST YEARS COLTS"

LBCutta 03-21-2012 02:25 PM

I think they play with a chip on they're shoulders. And come back stronger. They'll win it for Payton

papz 03-21-2012 02:26 PM

Instead of 11-5... 10-6 and in the playoffs?

73Saint 03-21-2012 02:26 PM

I bet we do better than last year's Colt's.... I just wonder about SP. What's he going to do? I think we can still get Drew signed, but do you think Benson is considering firing Payton? I doubt it, but I still wonder. I'm a freaking wreck right now, not trying to be doom and gloom but this is BAD BAD BAD!!

I HATE Goodell!!!

Euphoria 03-21-2012 02:26 PM

Who is going to win it for Payton...

We are going to miss a lot of players on our Defense.

neugey 03-21-2012 02:28 PM

You know this is kind of like a strike year ... except that we'll be the only team forced to use scabs!

Haps Biggest Fan 03-21-2012 02:38 PM

No way to know.

These are uncharted waters. Nobody knows how these penalties will adversely affect the Saints competitive ability. Could be a little. Could be a great deal.

No NFL team has ever been penalized this severely, so, you have to suppose that the Commish's intent was to make us a mediocre team. We are already mediocre on Defense, so, these penalties will hurt our Offense.

No way to know how badly we are affected. We know this: the rest of the NFL has years worth of competitive advantage over us.

Papa Voodoo 03-21-2012 02:41 PM

You guys can't be serious. Brees gets signed. Carmicheal is interim HC and Spags helps with HC logistics. Saints are SUPER pissed and will be very potent this year. My only question is if we get the 1 seed for the playoffs. HFA would be a big kick in the nards to Goodell.

QBREES9 03-21-2012 02:43 PM

What doesn't KILL ya only makes you stronger. They better get stronger.

jcp026 03-21-2012 02:45 PM

The storm isn't over yet. There will probably be player suspensions.

Papa Voodoo 03-21-2012 02:46 PM

You deal with Unions much? Vilma maybe. Nobody else gets anything.

neugey 03-21-2012 02:48 PM

I liked the NFL better when Tebow was still a Bronco :(

I like your thought process, and you are probably somewhat correct insofar as how we prepare to handle this, but you have to admit it's not that simple. The ripple effect for this is going to be big. Don't make it out like it's no biggy, cuz it is.....

Technically he still is... deal may be nixed.

Payton is next years head coach of Dallas. I think Payton is done here. I dont think he will get fired but I think he will leave.

papz 03-21-2012 03:12 PM

Well... if we take the league by storm and take it deep into the playoffs, would it really matter?

saintfan 03-21-2012 03:14 PM

I think all of you guys in the "we'll be just fine" camp are SEVERELY underestimating Sean's value to this team...SEVERELY...

and I hope you're right and I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm right...

papz 03-21-2012 03:18 PM

I don't look at it that way one bit and I'm in that "we'll be just fine camp". I'm just confident on how well run our organization is ran and the quality of coaches that we have on staff to help us make the transition. No doubt about it that losing Payton is going to hurt us... he's one of the brightest offensive minds in the game. But he put together a great staff to help him and they're still here... and I do expect Payton's suspension to be reduced.

We'll get by... just like we did last year with Carmichael and Brees running the show. It'll be harder, but we'll be fine. Keep the faith.

TXGSP 03-21-2012 03:26 PM

I always read, but never post... This is the one question I had.

Does the team react by folding it up or do they put this on their shoulder pads and DARE the rest of the NFL to beat them.

Would player suspensions on defense give the OC the chance to forget PUNTING and just go for it... Hold the ball and don't give the other team a chance. Defense would have to stand up, but would possibly limit their time on the field.

Risks would be getting offensive players injured at a higher rate, but with the correct roster moves it could get interesting

Anyone like to see 8,000 passing yards in a season...

It's coming. The NFL is rapidly doing away with defense. Welcome to the 100 yard version of the arena league.

oy, this unfounded thought process is getting so old.:flush:

ELROCKSTEADY 03-21-2012 04:46 PM

I think as long as the core players are there with whom ever is not suspended, you guys should be able to hold it together enough to be a playoff contender. The same offense and what not should still be in place right?

|Mitch| 03-21-2012 04:48 PM

The same offense is there, minus Meachem...

Goodell has the player penalties to go. That's where he can ruin our season, depending on suspensions of the defensive players...

reggiedude 03-21-2012 04:52 PM

I appears that there are a few on the forum that think this is no big deal.
IT IS! You can pretty much kiss the season goodbye, Brees may sit out if not contract is done, the lost of the 2 second round draft picks will have a severe impact on our future. And who is to say that Payton will even stay, if he was getting 7.5 million, I am sure some team out there will give him 9 or 10 to coach and maybe bring Brees with him. Get out the brown bags cause here comes the AINTS!

|Mitch| 03-21-2012 04:55 PM

Payton is under contract until the 2015 season, he can't just up and leave...

who calls the plays? you guys didnt have payton on the sidelines last eyar for a while either. You guys will be fine as long as that same system is there. You also won't be losing your DC. He was already gone. You guys will be fine.

nola_swammi 03-21-2012 05:27 PM

look who throwing Payton under the bus:

3. Coach Williams acknowledged that he designed and implemented the program with the assistance of certain defensive players. He said that he did so after being told by Saints Head Coach Sean Payton that his assignment was to make the defense “nasty..”

The NFL

Papa Voodoo 03-21-2012 05:29 PM

I don't undervalue Sean, but the offensive system has been established for 6 years now. Spags knows what he is doing with the D. The Colts were still the Colts with Manning no matter who the HC was and the Saints will be the Saints with Drew. Yes, he's not been signed to a long term deal, but thinking it won't happen is jumping the gun. Let Mickey do his job (while he still can).

OldMaid 03-21-2012 05:50 PM

I am so sick. I wanted to cry at work when I heard the news.

Breahte. Ok.
GW, I cannot stand this man.

He was gone anyway.

Penatly.
Draft choices. No big deal. Take them all . Take this year and next. My opinion of Saints draft choices, and that was when the Saints were really a low team and were high up in the draft, the players they got were really not very good. The people did not want to be in a low pr/tv market and for a team that was not very good.
Even now, N.O is still not a big market. Big city. Fancy city. It is not NYC, Miami, etc.
Saints are not NFL darlings like Dallas Cowboys.

Expelling GW from the NFL indefinitely, ok.
SP and Loomis , I figured a few games.
SP for a year. That is really severe.

I do not know what I am saying. I am still in shock.

I do hope the Saints players come back and win. Win for Benson, Saints, SP, and this city again.
I hope Saints sign Brees to a good contract for the next two years.
I hope Brees still wants to be here.

Loomis is only out for the first 8 games, his suspension starts September so he can definitely run the offseason and draft. Goodell had somewhat of a heart when he came to that...

Rugby Saint II 03-21-2012 07:49 PM

It'll slow us down. When Vitt comes back he can run the show while Carmichael runs the offense and Spags runs the defense. We'll probably win 10m or 11 games and get to the playoffs in a wild card or we could fall apart like most teams would. Drew needs to resign and take control of the reins again.
