Well there is always next year...

Who do we draft next season... oh wait...

mikesaintfan 03-21-2012 04:03 PM

we still have a number 1 next year...just lost the 2 second rounders right?

Euphoria 03-21-2012 04:04 PM

Yes only lost 2 second rounders but that doesn't hurt we can make up for that with FA's.

What is going to hurt is the players we are going to lose on Defense when their suspensions come down.

maybe, Goodell will have some sympathy when it comes to the players, who the **** am I kidding?

Will we even have the minimum amount of defensive players for the first game? Might have to play some iron-man football for the first few games... lol

At least it'll free up some cap room to sign 1-year warriors - "Get CFL on the phone!"

SaintFanQ 03-21-2012 06:02 PM

If the Saints get a lot of their top defensive players banned for a lot of the games! Has it ever happened that a team in the NFL has refused to play their games as a sort of protest?????

SloMotion 03-22-2012 06:03 AM

Do you guys think they're really going to come in and suspend the whole defense en masse? Combined with the suspension of the H/C, that would be a death sentence I find it hard to believe even a moron like Guck Foodell would be willing to hand down. The outcry would be enormous, not to mention the sure legal battles to follow.

Payton appeals, Benson litigates, NFLPA appeals all suspensions and the charade that the NFL actually cares about the welfare of it's athletes eventually works out into something more palatable for all parties.

"The Saints go marching on" ...

Even with a rag-tag defense we can beat people 44-37.
I could play corner for 2 weeks before I pulled up lame.
It's way too soon with way too many parms to formulate an outcome.
I'm still believing for a Lambardi gift dedicated to our master mind spectator/coach.

Uhm Yes... no one suspected Payton out for a year... so yes the whole D could be suspended. Perhpaps not for a year but they'll be out some games. Vilma is going to be missed for a long while though. We might as well cut him and find and other MLB.

There may be some individual suspensions and fines handed out, depending on what reliable documentation the NFL feels it has, but to suspend an entire defense at the same time is a little over the top, even for Goodell, and especially in light of suspending the coach & GM for significant lengths of time. The goal here is not to wipe out a revenue producing organization of the NFL.

For the sake of discussion, let's say they do it ... the Saints already have their offense in place, they scour the F/A market, CFL and other venues to find replacements, it is what it is, you don't roll over and die.

Y'all been through Katrina, this ain't nothing but a walk in the park. Bet. Focus. Adapt. Overcome. Believe.

The Saints go Marching on.

They could bring in the Philly style fan try-outs to bolster the roster... http://smileys.on-my-web.com/reposit...otball-043.gif

Yeah, like Vince Papale ... I'm just confident that the Saints coaching staff will find a way to weather this storm ... it may not be pretty and it may not be what the fans expected for 2012/2013, but they'll get through it.

We would have crappy draft picks anyway as Superbowl Champs, so it's all good. We excel at FA's and unknowns.

dueceloose 03-22-2012 09:58 AM

Who exactly are the 22 out of 27 players accused of being involved in the bounty?

Budsdrinker 03-22-2012 10:05 AM

Let's sit back and make a list of who we think are involved in the so called bounty program. Other than Vilma, what other name has come up? Fujita-gone, McCray-gone, Ayeodel-gone, Hargrove-gone, Sharper-gone. I just don't think there is enough on the other players that warrants a suspension. Harper has been fined for his hit on pansy Steve Smith and that hit wasn't really vicious. The only other big hits from last year that I can remember was Jenkins on Roddy White and IAQ on Giants receiver.

The suspensions will be fought through the process and will be delayed so they won't all come down at one time. Look at the star caps case, the suspensions for those players took YEARS to be enforced. Some like Deuce were basically already out the league.

The "Star Caps case" is a very poor comparison, because that case was all about the interpretation of the letter of the law concerning the League's illegal substance policies, and therefore, it dragged on because of the varying interpretations from different sides/experts.

Here, the case is much more straightforward, because if the league has proof that a certain player was involved in the bounty program - whether contributing or earning money to/from the collective pool - they can punish the player if they so desire.
