RUMOR - Carmichael new HC for 2012

Saints are rumored to have promoted OC Pete Carmichael as Head Coach for 2012.

Good for him, and it's nice to see that the Saints are moving quickly with their decisions.

I have a sneaky suspicion Joe Vitt will be a large part of that when he returns.

Well, maybe they could still get him to be the interim assistant HC until Vitt comes back.

BGWhoDat, I'm not seeing this anywhere, do you have a link?

There is no news anywhere else but here regarding a confirmation on this.

The only news i can pull up is similar to this:

With Sean Payton suspended for a year by the NFL, the question of who will be the head coach of the Saints this year comes into the forefront.

One of the most obvious candidates would be assistant head coach Joe Vitt, but he’s suspended for the first six games of next season as well. That leaves the Saints to look at other candidates to run the show. There’s no word about what the Saints plan to do at this point.

They could look outside the organization, although that seems like a thankless job for someone to take under the circumstances. That would leave in-house candidates and the two most obvious ones are defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael.

Spagnuolo has head coaching experience with the Rams, but he’s also a brand new part of the staff in New Orleans. That might not be a negative, though. The Saints could see that as a way to put a face on the team with no ties to what went down over the last three seasons.
Steve Spagnuolo, Pete Carmichael could lead Saints in Payton

Don't forget guys.. Pete Carmichael was a HUGE Candidate for a HC position with several teams including the Colts last year..

Apparently Sean Payton has mentored him well and should entrust him with his playbook since he helped architect must of it.

No surprise

Chill out, quit jumping the gun, they are not going to announce anything official for a while yet.

Payton may still appeal to have his suspension lowered, which may change things. Even the act of formally appealing his suspension would likely delay it from officially starting -- I expect that if SP appeals, he will let some time pass first, get his case together, and then appeal it at the eleventh hour, a few days before it officially starts, in order to delay it actually going into effect. At least that's how it works with players and other forms of arbitration - after a decision comes down, you have a set period in which to appeal, once you file an appeal the clock stops or resets while the appeal process works out, etc. They are not going to announce anything anytime soon.
