By all accounts, Tom Benson is standing by the men in charge of his football team.

The Saints owner has pledged his full support to General Manager Mickey Loomis and Coach Sean Payton, despite their implication in the NFL bounty scandal.

Benson's loyalty should surprise no one. Loomis and Payton have led the franchise to unprecedented success on and off the field for the past six seasons. Along the way, they've earned lucrative raises and Benson's implicit trust.

But now they've led his club into an embarrassing abyss. The bounty scandal is the second black eye Loomis and Payton have delivered to the club in the past three offseasons. And it dwarfs anything the club endured during Benson's 26-year watch. The club's ill-advised post-Katrina dalliances with San Antonio and the tawdry Vicodin lawsuit of 2010 seem like child's play by comparison.

Doesn't seem like this stuff will die out any time soon. I'm already so bored with this stuff and ready to move on.

I am too. Admittedly, I was wrong about this. I thought it would blow fizzle out and eventually blow over by the season. It's only getting uglier.

It will continue to be a issue untill another "gate" turns up.
Those that have a issue will forever bring it up as they do with the Pats.
Once the season starts and Suh/Harrison get caught with a late hit,RG3/Luck look exceptional/Terrible or a drug/gun scandal happens it will move further and further into history.
The stupid thing about the season suspension is that Goddell had kept it in the public longer than needed. If we(sorry when we) make the Super Bowl it will be the main story.'Should the Saints bring back Payton',or when the 2013 season starts it will be brought back into the media again.Had he given Payton a 12 game suspension all the talk would have died down before the start of 2013 season .Or maybe this is what he wanted,by making the suspension long term it was always in teams/players/COURTS minds

"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

I think they do have everything under control. Obviously they have to make some adjustments they they didn't count on but besides that they are still signing players and getting things in order.

That's ok, Payton will take this year to make his offensive system even more dynamic and prolific. What he will unleash on the NFL in 2013 will be the apocolypse of the NFL. If they feared us before they'll be crying when they read that we are on their schedule. You think Hell Hath No Fury like a Woman Scorned?? Wait till you see what Payton does to the league in 2013. Anybody we play better hide the women and children. Guess that means the BiQueens won't field a team.

Loomis and SP are the faces but there have always been a great team of people working behind them

I'm tired of all of the sports writers. It's no longer about performance but some behind the scenes soap opera.

They build up more drama than what is actually taking place. I'm betting that Godell wouldn't have come down as hard if it wasn't to please the writers need for drama.

Looking at articles today they are speculating on keeping Payton if we do well this season with the fill in.

Demanding that Bensen should come out and say something and what he should say.

That because Sanchez hasn't spoken up about the Tebow trade shows lack of leadership.

They all need a kick in the knuts.

The Picayune is good for one thing - lining picnic tables for crawfish boils...

First, they argue how owners should let "knowledgeable" people run their franchises - and for once, Benson did...

Now, they say this old man should be hands on - *&ck Me!

Loomis and Payton had just become the biggest thing to New Orleans since Iberville and Bienville and were being warned by the NFL for a practice that every other of the thirty-two franchises are guilty...

Arrogance, yes; but disbelief that they would be singled out is more accurate which is exactly what happened...

And the Picayune is just following the lead of these National Wire Services rather than use their local, first hand account experience and telling it like it is; if Joe Horn is strapped for cash - the Picayune could put him on staff - at least then it'd be worth the read and it'd be genuine...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
