This kid is starting to intrigue me...
He may last till the 3rd.

Greg Brooks CB Southern Mississippi

Strengths

Greg is a very smart player. He has very good catch up speed and can turn and run with the receivers to cover the deep pass. He adjusts well to the ball in the air and looks for the big play. Greg uses the drag–down technique when he tackles and does a good job with it. He has good hands for the interception and should be a good teammate. He takes pride in his play.

Needs to Improve

Greg will have to get bigger and stronger to compete every down in the NFL. He has to gain at least 10 to 15 lbs and build up his upper body and increase his quickness in his lateral movement.

Bottom Line

Greg has excellent potential to be a #2 CB in the NFL. His size, lack of aggressiveness in running plays and the lack of quickness in his lateral movement are the main reasons for me to think that he is a #2 rather then a #1 CB. All of the things I mention are correctable and make me think that Greg can (if he works hard) be a top CB in the NFL. The lack of quickness in a CB’s lateral movement is how WR’s get separation. Here is how it works. As a WR, you drive the CB into his backpedal deep-- let’s say 15 yards. The CB stays squared up to the WR with a cushion. Just as the cushion starts to close, the WR takes a break inside or out and bursts out of his break. The CB is still squared up and has to move laterally and limit the separation so that he can burst to make up the rest of the separation. That one or two steps of lateral movement are the difference between a Pro Bowl CB and #2 CB. If you want to increase your lateral movement it is very simple. All you have to do is learn to jump rope. What?! Has the profile guy gone crazy? That’s what I said - learn to jump rope. Now, when I say learn to jump rope, I’m talking like the great boxer Ali. Go and get some tapes of Ali jumping rope. If it is done right, it is an art form. It will strengthen and lengthen your hip flexor muscles and your feet will get quicker. Your lateral movement will increase and you will make a lot of money in free agency. Greg, ‘Be the rope…be one with the rope.’

I\'m not really sure if I can take this Drew Boylhart\'s profiles seriously, since I read his profile on Philip Rivers.

Drew thinks the only way Rivers will make an impact in the NFL is as a pass catching Tight End??!?!?

I mean.... is this guy for real?

I agree with Cadillac, this guy is an idiot. He thinks Rivers cannot make it in the NFL as a starting quarterback? Danno, never post another shred of insight coming from this man again.

Let\'s see how many people I piss off with this next statement.

I actually think that he is being generous. I don\'t understand the fascination with this guy. He\'s smart and has a great head on his shoulders, so I hope that I am very wrong, but I don\'t see where he has the talent to succeed in the NFL.

You are being fooled because this kid is an excellent manager of a game plan, into thinking that it is possible for him to be a starting QB in the NFL. Those of you who think this I have two words for you, Danny Wuerffel.
Pretty much what I have been telling friends the past few months.

BTTT,
Did any of you USM fans watch him (Brooks) play?
Is he a player, or and athlete?

Hey, don\'t get me wrong BandB, I\'m not convinced Rivers will be a huge success either. I mean, on one hand you can\'t overlook the huge success he had both in college, and the senoir bowl. On the other hand he lacks great arm strength.

So will he end up like Danny Wuerfell, or Chad Pennington? (Who also lacks arm strength).

I\'m not sure where I stand on the topic, I just think this Drew guy is a nut because he figures Rivers could be an impact tight end! Being a tight end requires an entirely different skill set than being a QB... and I just can\'t imagine Rivers really has much skills catching balls, running routes and blocking.

I saw him play, and I will guarantee that he will start for some team by the 05 season. Let me admit right off that I am partial to the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss, but in my evaluation, Brooks has all of the tools to be successful.

His size, to me, is a non-factor. Brooks has decent strength and uses his hands (and very good receiving ability) to tip or intercept balls meant for larger receivers. I have seen him have a hard time shedding blocks at the line, but he can improve his technique at the next level.

Southern played him on an island a majority of the time. He\'s not conservative, but I rarely saw him get burned on the big play. His speed has been listed on various sites ranging from 4.38 to 4.41. I know he has game speed.

What\'s more, he\'s also from NOLA and is by accounts that I\'ve heard, a really good guy and team leader. He went to Michigan for two years (?) and thought about going to the NFL in 02 so that he could support his mom and sis.

Draft him and Davis and bring the Rowdy Rags, baby!!!!

Greg Brooks can be a ballplayer...no doubt about it. It is gonna take some time and he is really gonna have to dedicate himself in the weight room. It all depends on his work ethic.

My comparison to Phillip Rivers is Cade McNown. That being said i do believe this...Rivers will stick around in the NFL and he will become a starter for someone down the road but will never be more than an average QB.
