The #Saints have agreed to terms on a three-year deal with OLB Chris Chamberlain, per @caplannfl.

That has to pretty much put us with 0 cap space, time to start more restructuring

TheDeuce 03-23-2012 05:26 PM

Pardon my ignorance but who the hell is Chris Chamberlain?

Could this mean Vilma/shanle getting released to free up cap space and sign Brees?

But either way, this is good news! good signing

Euphoria 03-23-2012 05:28 PM

BYE SHANLE!!!

TheDeuce 03-23-2012 05:28 PM

O so we just signed a scrub? Sweet.

Yeah, I think we were at around $1.5mm in space before the signing.

I hate to think this spells the end for Vilma (from a loyalty perspective) but it's looking like that may be the case.

W. Kovacs 03-23-2012 05:30 PM

Oh, and Shanle. But I don't really hate to see that ...from any perspective...
:-P

|Mitch| 03-23-2012 05:33 PM

did he play MLB for the Rams? I know he was their Special Teams tackle leader

No, he was a weak-side OLB for them - among several they played in that position.

W. Kovacs 03-23-2012 05:40 PM

He was apparently on the field for 56% of their defensive plays and was their 4th leading tackler...

RockyMountainSaint 03-23-2012 05:44 PM

Spags wanted him............

dizzle88 03-23-2012 05:49 PM

Dunbar (possibly) at MLB
Martez Wilson at SLB
Chamberlain at WLB

I prefer that to any LB core we've had in the last decade

Yeah, these two signings will really be for moot if we lose Dubar...IMHO...

I don't think Dunbar fits into what Spags is looking for in a starting MLB, because going by what type of guys they've brought in for a visit, he wants a "thumper" MLB - which Dunbar is not.

ChrisXVI 03-23-2012 06:06 PM

I think it's a great signing! They'll get rid of Shanle now. Our weakside linebacker position is just about set now with Casillas and Chamberlain. Getting younger and harder hitting at linebacker is paramount.

I remember falling in love with Dunbar after this block!

Great block, it still doesn't make him a thumper, but an opportunistic tackler for sure.

JimmyB1775 03-23-2012 06:23 PM

Holy crap wikipedia is fast! He's already a Saints linebacker.

|Mitch| 03-23-2012 06:23 PM

That was one hell of a nice block!

I get that. He was RAW when he got here. He has been playing faster, much more decisive defense over time.
Hopefully, without GW's ridiculously over complicated schemes, he can read and react quicker.

The kid has worked hard and I am pulling for him.

I don't have anything against him, and I think he would be a good re-sign for the Saints for depth, but certainly not to be the starting MLB.

dizzle88 03-23-2012 06:32 PM

I think if given the opportunity and some more reps, Dunbar would become a good MLB.

It was obvious last year that when Vilma was out, Dunbar showed his most comfortable spot is the middle linebacker.

In a small amount of playing time dunbar has made a hand full of plays when given the chance

Alot of people might not remember this....In Dallas in 2010 season, marion barber had the edge on a 4th and 1, DE missed the tackle, vilma and shanle both missed the tackle and dunbar came from nowhere like a freight train and stopped barber for a loss, Our ball on our 40 yard line

Then when he stopped the falcons ball carrier to force a 4th and 1 last year, which ofcourse smith went for and lost.

I know its only 2 examples, but i'm rooting for him because he's a hard worker and played better than vilma did all season

Because we are able to post about this signing, instead of bounties.

Or, don't get excited.

Does acid reflux taste good?:p

CharityMike 03-23-2012 08:11 PM

This is guy is Spags version of our Shanle. I'm excited at the prospect of not having to see the name Shanle on the back of #58 anymore.

FinSaint 03-23-2012 09:26 PM

We all knew that Spags would likely bring in some of his former players, who he trusts and knows understand his system.

I'm glad it's someone who wasn't over-payed or even overtly invested in, and that he is a linebacker - an area where the Saints need to get better.

If you look at the dollars involved in this signing, you shouldn't be overly excited, because that reaction should be reserved for the truly big signings - something the Saints just can't afford at present time.

I'm just happy that some players still want to sign with the Saints after all that has gone down with the bounty crap, and that shows me that Chamberlain must be a smart individual.

bobdog86 03-24-2012 12:56 AM

Hey, what # is he gonna wear? Gotta change it doesn't he? #57 is fairly hallowed ground.

Would have been better behind the line of scrimmage. Not really that impressive, but he kind of reminds me of Fujita.

SaintFanQ 03-24-2012 04:42 AM

Don't think you will see any defensive player put a hit like that on anyone this year!

They will be too worried about being put under investigation and having their money clip checked for extra dollars!!! LOL!

GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!

new blood to LB position is always welcomed
