ESPN: Saints Looking at Vilma & DJ Williams!!!

To be honest, I'm starting to prefer Williams. He's a terror and he's working on his one question, instincts.

Thank heavens for the University of Miami, which has replaced Penn State as Linebacker University. The Hurricanes have a long list of successful NFL linebackers from Lewis to Michael Barrow to Dan Morgan and it's no different this year with the two best linebackers -- Jonathan Vilma and D.J. Williams -- being from Miami.

Vilma is the inside linebacker, Williams plays the outside. They've been together for four seasons. They currently share an apartment as they prepare for the draft. They have the same agent, Mitch Frankel. From the looks of the draft, they could be selected back-to-back toward the middle of the first round.

The Saints have the 18th pick in the first round and like both linebackers although Vilma probably has the edge. The Vikings pick next. While they lean toward selecting Vilma, they'd be happy to get Williams. They currently have seven linebackers under contract including middle linebacker Greg Biekert, who is expected to retire. The Vikings are scrambling to sign a restricted free agent linebacker to add the numbers at the position.

Either one would work in the Vikings defense coordinated by Ted Cottrell.

Either would make me extremely happy though!

I sure hope Minnesota doesn\'t jump us to grab the only one left at 17.
Minnesota and Denver swap 1st\'s for a 7th rounder?
We lose out on Hall, Robinson, Vilma and DJ?
My worst nighmare come true.

I\'ve read on other forums that the Miami D had to be dumbed down for DJ...
Now this may or may not have been true.. But it\'s sure scary, isn\'t it? I mean if the guy actually couldn\'t figure out his college system in four years....

It just is scary to think we might be spending our frist round pick on another James Allen... A great athlete who looks lost on the field half the time. I think I\'d prefer Vilma, just because I think he hass less chance to bust.

Bad news guys - all the reports last season had the Saints looking at CB Marcus Trufant. Everyone knew it would happen. It didn\'t. The more the media talks about Vilma the less likely he is to be drafted by the Saints, IMO. These guys are famous for their smoke screens. And yes, a smoke screen may include players that they could actually use (e.g. Trufant last season). The more they talk about linebacker the more likely we are to trade up and pick a CB, or even worse a WR.

In DJ\'s defense...he did play fullback for a while at Miami. Not 4 years at LB. Just a little insight,

What is your source on DJ? It sounds stupid and unfounded.

The more I read of what the Saints want this year, the more I think they\'ll take Shawn Andrews(OT). He\'s one player they haven\'t said they like.

It\'s not from a reliable source, it was posted on the Saints Report forum. It didn\'t sound \"stupid and unfounded\" to me, but the source didn\'t have any supporting evidence really.

So maybe it was true, maybe it wasn\'t, all I was trying to say was that it\'s a scary thought.

And no, it wasn\'t DJ\'s job to run the defence. That was Vilma.

DJ was interviewed on Sportswrap the other night though, and DJ admitted he needed to work on \"dissecting plays and knowing where to go.\"

Read as much into that as you want, but \"not knowing where to go\" may be a sign that Miami\'s D was in fact too complex for him.

Like I said though, I don\'t know any of this for a fact. It\'s just something to think about.
