If not, I'm OK with Vilma at WLB.

So long Jo-Lonn Dunbar, you were one of my personal favorites.

This is a shame. Dunbar was one of my favorites, too. I can't help but wonder if we're making a mistake in letting him go...

Do you think it's just that he doesn't fit into Spag's new scheme?

I was thinking the exact same thing when I heard about the signing, because Lofton's contract should have at least about a $5-6M cap hit in 2012.

Of course it could be less, but I don't think so because he had competing offers from both the Bucs and the Failclowns, unless they were able get him to agree to a very heavily end-loaded contract.

So, this leads me to think that they already know that Vilma will be suspended for the year, and therefore, they know it will free up $5.4M in cap space added to the $1.3M the Saints apparently had left - makes that ~$6M cap hit possible to fit under the salary cap.

I don't know, but that was just what I began to think after I heard about this signing.

I was thinking that the Falcons offered him 3-4 million and Lofton wanted 8-9 million a year?

I'm probably wrong though

Regardless, he felt low balled by the Falclowns and when he hit the open market, he wasn't as valued as he thought he was. I would imagine our offer wasn't more than there's but it was enough to make him leave after feeling slighted.

Funny how these falcons fans loved this guy when he was on their team. Now that he's gone, all they say is how overrated he is and that he has bad knees and won't stay healthy.

bad knees but has started every game in his 4 year career except one in '08... :bng:

No one ever labeled Michael Boley a two down LB, he was to expensive to keep and was made expendable when we drafted Curtis Lofton. Curtis started in the middle and Keith Brooking was moved outside to replace Michael, now slowly back out of this thread u clueless azzclown!!!

It could be, but the problem is that none of financial details have been made public, at least I haven't seen any.

The Failclowns offered him a low-ball offer back in January I think, which Lofton outright turned down. But I don't know if the offer they gave him now was more competitive or if it was the same they gave him earlier.

I'd love it if Lofton's contract was $3-4M/yr, but I just get the feeling that it'll be more than that, of course I have no evidence to support it.

And for the bad knees claim I just don't understand how that can be the determining factor since Tatupu's knees are probably in a worse condition and he's older than Lofton. The fact that he didn't miss any games after his knee surgeries during the 2011 off-season leads me to believe that he'll be fine - I heard that they also did a scope later during the season, which removed all of the post-surgery scar tissue etc., so he should be fine and pain free.

I think that Nolan didn't really see Lofton fitting into what he wants to do defensibly, and therefore, the Failclowns had a fairly low figure in mind what they were willing to offer Lofton to re-sign.

No, we would have loved to have Curtis back just at the right price he is a very good LB just to rich for our blood!
