Rooney rule??????

I know this applies to hiring for a head coach position, but does that include interim coach duties? Someone said they were talking about this on NFLN.

Who'd you hire for one season?

Herm Edwards - MORON

Tony Dungy - Can't Win the Big One

This is a unique situation whereby Coach Payton will be back after the suspension...

Besides Coach Parcells is the perfect payback to the media - if they think Coach Payton was difficult wait till they get a load of the Parcells Nuclear Response!

SaintPauly 03-26-2012 06:05 PM

I don't know the rule completely, or how it applies to this situation, but being that Payton is still under contract, and is on suspension, then to me, the Rooney Rule wouldn't apply. But, once again, I am no expert on this, so someone with a better understanding of this, please explain it to me.

Uhm Tony Dungy got a ring fool.

Euphoria 03-26-2012 06:08 PM

The rule does't apply its only a stand in coach.

The rules are in play if you are hiring a HC full time.

SaintPauly 03-26-2012 06:09 PM

Then which idiot on NFLN was talking about this? An analyst that doesn't even know the rules? What a moron...

Euphoria 03-26-2012 06:18 PM

It wouldn't be the first time.

SaintPauly 03-26-2012 06:23 PM

Apparently it was our good buddy Roger Goodell..... But according to NBC, it does apply... Now I am confused....

Rooney Rule has limited application to Saints

ChrisXVI 03-26-2012 06:24 PM

Actually, here ya go...

Goodell lays out Saints' coaching search standards

We can still hire or "promote" a head coach from within and bypass the rules... my vote still goes to Pete Carmichael

ChrisXVI 03-26-2012 06:26 PM

Nope, Goodell says we can't.

|Mitch| 03-26-2012 06:28 PM

I listened to Goodells speech at the owners meeting and he said we can hire from within and the rooney rule would only apply if we try and hire outside of the organization

EDIT: NFL Network just scrolled across the screen that Spagnoula and Carmichael are still possibilities to take over this year

SaintPauly 03-26-2012 06:29 PM

Now read what NBC said on the link I posted..... Because it seems to conflict with what CBS said.

Euphoria 03-26-2012 06:32 PM

Its no big deal just go out and ask a bum a couple of questions and say sorry you won't do.

Tuna jobs yours.

Euphoria 03-26-2012 06:33 PM

Its the most stupid rule in the league.

You can honestly ask any black guy hey you want the job and he says no you're covered.

SaintPauly 03-26-2012 06:35 PM

Our luck the bum would want the job..... And then we are stuck with Leslie Frazier...... lmao

Euphoria 03-26-2012 06:50 PM

We are covered if Parcells take the job he is a minority...

Irish and Italian.

Doesn't have to be black... just minority even though its heavily favors blacks.

Euphoria 03-26-2012 06:53 PM

I say piss on him...

What the hell is another rule that we break.

It would also apply to an interim hire, if the head coach had been fired. But Payton is suspended and still under contract, so the Saints can do whatever they want here.

I don't think you can bypass the rules, thats how we got here in the first place. You guys act as if interviewing an African American candidate is the worst thing in the world. You can do what the Cowboys did before they hired Jason Garrett, interview someone on staff already and then just hire your guy. Its good coaching experience for the candidate. Curtis Johnson the former WR coach, Henry Ellard, just for example I don't know what the big deal is.

|Mitch| 03-27-2012 12:23 AM

I believe the rooney rule doesn't apply if we promote Carmichael or Spags to head coach, not that we would doing it illegally

TheOak 03-27-2012 06:42 AM

Whats all the bupkis? Interview 1 or 99 others. The MOST QUALIFIED man gets the job. TUNA.

You only have to consider and interview. TUNA is arguably more qualified than ANYONE else that could or would interview for the position.

Mardigras9 03-27-2012 01:41 PM

It would be hard to out-qualify Parcels.
