Why not Jim Mora Sr?

Since Mora was instrumental in making the Saints winners, I would love for him to at least win a playoff game as the Saints HC.

How awesome would it be to win the Super Bowl with him?

lynwood 03-27-2012 06:31 AM

I think the game has passed him up

TheOak 03-27-2012 06:32 AM

Hell no. Don"t you remember the era of JM Sr.. no passes beyond 8 yards? Way too conservative.

Besides his offspring would be asked to comment and I dont care to ever hear his voice again.

hagan714 03-27-2012 06:38 AM

Jim won with the house that Bum built. Completely over rated by the fans. pass

Like Dungy, he's good at whipping a franchise into shape - but is among the worst game managers there was; "he can't win the big games nor playoff games - he can't."

Parcells has the "killer instinct" and will find any way during the course of the game to win...:bng:

TheOak 03-27-2012 06:58 AM

I do not care to go backwards with the Saints.

Why Not Bum? Haslett? Ditka?..... Because none of them could get it done.

Uhhh, Tony Dungy won the Super Bowl in '07. I'm not a fan of his particularly, but he should not have been part of that analogy.

That would have been Payton Manning.

Saying Dungy won the Super Bowl in 07 is like saying Caldwell was the reason the Colts were in the Super Bowl in 09.

You're talking about playoffs?

Stiggs 03-27-2012 09:21 AM

No, no, and no!

Srgt. Hulka 03-27-2012 09:38 AM

Let me think about this for a minute...No!

73Saint 03-27-2012 10:17 AM

I don't think we could do diddly poo with Mora. Can you see him going into conservative mode once we get a lead? Fans would storm the field after having SP at the helm. We've been spoiled, there's no going backwards!!

PLAYOFFS?!?!? PLAYOFFS?!?!?? PLAYOFFS!!

Sorry I couldn't resist still LMAO over the suggestion... Jim Mora Sr.... yes it was a nice time with him back in the day, but without the best LB tandem in the history of the league Jimmy would have been just another Saints coach that people don't even remember.

...uhhhhh no.

Mardigras9 03-27-2012 01:42 PM

Hell no, the current Saints are way out of his league.

Halo 03-27-2012 01:58 PM

I was gonna say, JeanPierre etc. in...... 3............2...........1 lol

skymike 03-27-2012 05:45 PM

I'll take his defensive knowledge!

By that logic, Drew Brees won the super bowl and not Sean Payton.

You can't say a coach can't win the big one when he has. And if it's all about the quarterback, then no coach ever won a super bowl. That's ridiculous.

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Dude 03-27-2012 08:42 PM

This one is the best

RailBoss 03-27-2012 11:59 PM

You got it Mitch! let's not forget.

skymike 03-28-2012 07:10 AM

I dont know, yall. There was something very competent about Jim Mora
back then. You cant tell me you werent feeling it. You had a feeling we
could win... in many cases we should win. And you felt like we really had
a chance to go somewhere.

I like Mora. He's a good guy & at that time, the best head coach we'd had.

darstep 03-28-2012 10:13 AM

I like Jim too, and liked what he did with what he had to work with.
But NO.
Carmichael's play sheet would be down to an index card.
We would need Hartley, Kasay, and bring back Anderson to handle the field goal production.

SaintPauly 03-28-2012 12:37 PM

1st down...... run the ball...... 2nd down....... run the ball..... 3rd down...... short pass...... punt....... or kick a field goal based on field position..... I love Mora Senior, and will always remember him for bringing the franchise into the light, but no..... I like the Parcells idea better, but would prefer having Payton over all of them.

TheOak 03-28-2012 02:36 PM

Mora gave those feelings because he was in contrast to his two predecessors... Bum Phillips and Wade Phillips.

When you are on fire, scalding water feels good.....

UK_WhoDat 03-28-2012 03:41 PM

What's that? Ah -- Mora? Don't talk about -- Mora?!
You kidding me?! Mora?! I just hope we can find a head coach!
Another head coach!"

SaintPauly 03-28-2012 04:15 PM

I have to dissagree X... Mora put us on a map, that we were never on before. Not that many losing seasons with that team in place. No play off wins, but not too many losing seasons. Not to mention the dome patrol.

TheOak 03-28-2012 07:15 PM

So Pauley, if you are going to go out side for a head coach, do you want the guy that can get you 9-7 or do you want the guy that can take you all the way?

I didn't say he was a terrible coach, I said it would be a step backwards.

One thing that has not been debated is that Mora can not win in the post season.... Why bother with him then?

skymike 04-03-2012 07:13 AM

did not doesnt equal cannot.
ask john elway

TheOak 04-03-2012 07:40 AM

His career winning % is .541
Payton's is .646

I will gladly ask Elway. Ill frame it like this "Tebow as an NFL QB worked out how?"

He did not in Florida, and could not in Denver, and inevitably in New York ... Will not.

:D

Ashley 04-03-2012 10:27 AM

i will never forget this. It was his first game in the regular season we just lost the game bad. The local news was asking fans walking out of the dome what did they think. This one fan said this "Welcome to the NFL Jim Moron". That stuck with me through all his years here. I have never called him anything different since then.

Rugby Saint II 04-03-2012 11:30 AM

Uhm....nah!

Supertek 04-03-2012 12:48 PM

Hire him as a public relations guy just to give us some more punch lines

vpheughan 04-04-2012 07:42 PM

He was fine for what he did but you can't replace a coach that plays to win with one that plays not to lose. How could anyone forget Carl Smith? Hand off, Hand off, thow a 5 and out when you need 8. Let Morten win it at the gun.

OldMaid 04-04-2012 08:20 PM

No.
The answer to this thread's question is no.

Yes, vpheughan , you are right.

No, you cannot win , be a real contender with 3pts. 3pts. FG, FG. ...

Yes you can; just ask the 49er team from last year.

They set the record for most fgs in a season...

gandhi1007 04-04-2012 08:46 PM

I've searched & searched, but I can't find the HELL NO button. Can anyone help with this? :-)

I should have been more specific; Dungy had Peyton Manning - Peyton was the Coach and Dungy was the Cruise Director.

Jim Finks provided talent - save a quarterback. That was why Mora was successful.

OldMaid 04-06-2012 11:58 AM

Mitch, I should have been more specific.
The Saints ' then were good enopugh. I think and thank Jim Mora for that. HE did to the best of his ability. THat was his ability. We were winners...so we thought because the Saints had never had any kind of wins like that. 8-8, 9-7, Wildcard Playoff, whew!!!

Seeing SP, ok, that is how it is done. Oh.

I stand by my post, you cannot be a real contender on 3tpts. 3pts. and the other team is coming at you with 7's. No offense. No qb. So-so qb. Second string qb (Forucade) running out of the pocket. Great defense. Great accurate placekicker. Morten was top in the league. His record and ranking stand.
That was then. Now is now.
