A local representative from Metarie is at the State Capital in Baton Rouge trying to pass a resolution that would get the NFL to reconsider the suspensions recently handed out to the New Orleans Saints.

Representative Cameron Henry is attempting to pass House Resolution 50 with the Senate in order to get the NFL or more specifially Roger Goodell, to possibly change the penalties handed out just recently.

The resolution drafted by the local lawmaker contains some of the following points according to HomuaToday.com:
“The New Orleans Saints have produced countless exciting and magical moments.”


“The taxpayers of Louisiana have invested millions of dollars into the success of the Saints organization by supporting stadium improvements, practice facilities, and other incentives.”


“The sanctions faced by the team will likely have a negative economic impact across the Crescent City and the state as a whole.”


Payton is the “first coach ever suspended by the NFL for any reason.”

Goodell: :"Ok reconsidered".. "no".... "have a nice day"

There's no turning back. It's done. And I seriously question the economics of it. How do the Saints impact the State as a whole as opposed to one region. Many People in BR don't even follow the Saints. Same goes for up north or close to the TX border. I would even say the Saints have a negative impact on those areas since tax dollars are not spread out.

Here I will break it down for you. Unlike states like Texas, Florida,and New York that have two teams for a state the Saints are one team for multiple states in the gulf coast.

Regional States with no teams
Mississippi - Tons of fans
Alabama - Tons of fans
Arkansas - Tons of fans

States with teams:
For every two Texans fans in Houston there is a Saints fan.
Dallas...they can just go to hell. With Jerry.

Ok so you have a mental picture of the Saints fan base.
Now here is where the $ comes in.
Every jersey, bumper sticker, t-shirt, etc sold in stores like Academy etc generates tax dollars for that city/state

When fans travel to close "away" games that generates plane tickets, motel rooms, fuel bought, food.

Home games.... people travel from home to New Orleans to see the games, fuel sales, etc...

Sounds small and moot? Other than ticket sales and profits from merchandise that is all the Saints generate for New Orleans.... but it is not so small and moot, the "attraction" and tax revenue is why the city of New Orleans will spend millions on the Super Dome.

The Saints are quite big up here in northwest Louisiana.

Yes, exactly my point..for that city, meanwhile the money to remodel/improve the SD and give the Saints tax breaks comes from the State. The Saints do have a positive impact financially, but it's been discussed on here before that it's about the same as couple big box stores as far as tax revenue is concerned. Also consider the big events like the Sugar Bowl and SB are events granted off of New Orleans rich culture and unique atmosphere. Even without the Saints those events still happen.

Look, I love the Saints but my point is a politican is using this situation for his own gain. He knows there is nothing that can be done except get his name in the paper and the next ballot people will think, hey he was fighting for the Saints. Yeah right.

Actually, you are wrong on one point. The Superbowls would not occur without the Saints. The SB can only be held in an NFL city.

Beastmode, the City of New Orleans produces billions of dollars in tax revenue for the State of La. (approximately $5 billion dollars per year)

After the politicians have hold of those revenues that they send back to their home districts outside of New Orleans, the City of New Orleans sees less than 10% of state generated tax income.

The local city tax accounts for an additional 20%, of that the state of La takes off the top of local tax. 30% of the City's total income is generated from Travel & Tourism.

Remember travel and tourism is the state's biggest industry, and New Orleans is the destination.
