Payton appeal?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; some questions: any word on if Payton is appealing? why would he not appeal- does he have anything to lose? do you think it might be reduced to half a season? and ... if he appeals, can he remain active ...

Payton appeal?

some questions:

any word on if Payton is appealing?
why would he not appeal- does he have anything to lose?
do you think it might be reduced to half a season?
and ... if he appeals, can he remain active until the hearing, or would he still be suspended.

just curious- the guy is basically done in 3 days, and other playing golf and being an analyst, it's been quiet

As of this moment, Payton is unsure if he will appeal.

He has time to lose - if not now then later - effectively impacting TWO seasons

Commish has taken a stand. No we he backs down, IMO

He would remain active, but again the commish has vowed to expedite the hearing, the process and his decision.

It's been far from quiet. Payton is working tirelessly I'm sure to make sure his team is covered. And he'll continue to do so after April 1.

Payton is to make that decision in the next few days...

After watching his interview, he was very forthright and resigned; he was saying the things that Goodell will need to hear to reexamine the situation...

And it may be that an appeal will only drag things out needlessly since the appeal is heard by the same adjudicator...

He definitely wants this in his past so the media pr*cks can't turn this into his legacy...

Don't trust Jerry Jones "reaching out" effort; he's a very bad man, very bad...

Commish says he would hear any "additional" evidence Payton wants to bring forward.
And that Payton could continue to coach during the appeals process.
Payton can appeal at anytime up to the April 2nd deadline.
Commish also added that the appeal process would be a VERY short one.
If I had to guess, 20-30 minutes.
Halo likes this.

So will Sean Payton appeal the year-long suspension levied by Commissioner Goodell? It seams that if he could at the very least draw out the process, he might be able to be involved in the depleted upcoming draft and the days immediately after the draft.

My thought is that he is too stubborn and proud (arrogant?) to appeal. He didn't go out of his way to apologize to the league and the commissioner in his recent blanket apology.

Maybe Goodell will say "April Fools!" on Sunday and let Payton coach the 2012 season.

I was thinking he might draw it out also, BUT, I wouldn't put it put past Goddell to say that he was lenient contingent on us not appealing. Appealling could also affect our player suspensions.

If I was Payton I would wait until the last possible second and then appeal. I mean, how much worse could Goddell make it for us?

I figure he'll say, "April Fools! You don't really get an appeal."

If I'm Payton, I wouldn't give Goodell the satisfaction of appealing.

I honestly think it will depend on how the next couple of days plays out. If the Saints really want Parcells to step in for a year, and Parcells commits to it quickly, then I say Payton goes away without an appeal. If they cannot get a commitment from Parcells, then I think Payton tries to appeal in order for the team to have a little more time to figure out who to put in charge for the season. I don't believe Payton is going to get a reduction in his suspension, but really, who knows at this point.
