Vilma has words for Peter King

Vilma was brought out of his recent Twitter break when just a short time after Hawthorne was signed, King posted the following on his Twitter account:

@SI_PeterKing: Curtis Lofton, Chris Chamberlain, David Hawthorne. Get the message, Jonathan Vilma?

Vilma didn’t take long to respond and he quoted the above tweet with this added onto the end:

@JonVilma51: that u know how to type people’s names?

A few minutes later Vilma sent King this tweet directly:

@JonVilma51: @SI_PeterKing reckless journalism is beneath you sir. You’ve become a glorified blogger

Close to an hour ago, King quoted the above tweet by Vilma but added this:

@SI_PeterKing: It’s the NFL investigation, Jonathan. Not me.

Some replies to King’s tweets would suggest otherwise though according to his and Vilma’s followers

Vilma tweeted King again calling him a blogger who takes shots at players and then ended with this:

@JonVilma51: @SI_PeterKing not going to go back and forth with you, enjoy your night sir.

Peter King is a total douchebag. But he's still better than the insufferable Mike Florio.

burningmetal 04-04-2012 03:20 AM

These goons make me feel like a grandpa. I find myself going around saying I miss the good 'ole days, when journalists reported facts, not opinions. And if they got their facts wrong, they were scoffed at and sometimes fired. Now they're paid for the sole purpose of stirring controversy because, apparently, drama is all the rage now.

saintsfan1976 04-04-2012 04:59 AM

Vilma should have never given him the time of day

SloMotion 04-04-2012 05:29 AM

No, he probably shouldn't have, but I'm glad he did.

Crusader 04-04-2012 05:42 AM

Yawn... I don't care at all what people do or say on twatter.

dueceloose 04-04-2012 07:36 AM

So I'm guessing Peter King has a bounty on Vilma huh.

228jits 04-04-2012 07:41 AM

I wonder if SI is going to do anything with this. He is out of line and if this is made national, can be bad press for SI. Peter King represents the company that he writes for through that twitter account. Classless.

FinSaint 04-04-2012 07:49 AM

I don't follow any twitter feeds, but I have to admit that Vilma has some really funny tweets from time to time.

Danno 04-04-2012 07:52 AM

That exchange is beneath both of them.

Thats the type of conflict you settle over the phone or in person, not behind a keyboard.

228jits 04-04-2012 07:57 AM

This actually pissed me off enough that I am going to cancel my subscription with SI today. I don't agree with the bounty bs, but there are no hard facts to show what J Vilma did or didn't do. Disrespect.

Exactly. You want to be disrespectful, say it to my face. If you aren't man enough to do that, keep it in your head.

That might've been the case a decade a go, but nowadays it seems that this is how these type of matters are handled more and more, since it gives the people a chance to "eavesdrop" on the conversation making it a kind of a spectator sport in itself.

I agree that it was not classy, but it was totally in line with how today's societies seem to function - or malfunction, depending on how you want to perceive it.

I meant the reasoning behind the comments should be addressed personally.

Reporters can't be expected to say face to face everything they write, but when a conflict arises talk about it privately, not thru social media, unless you're just playing around acting mad just to draw attention.

NuNu318 04-04-2012 08:16 AM

Peter King had no right to even say Vilma's name about the situation. Then to try and back out of it when Vilma confronted him and say "its the investigation, not me" was very childish if it was about the investigation and not his own personal feelings about Vilma then he would have said that in the first tweet....Vilma was right when he said he's a glorified blogger because he is. Vilma probably shouldn't have responded but when you are called out by name like that by someone who's supposed to be this all world type of sports journalist in a disrespectful way for ALL the world to see....I can understand why he wanted to defend himself. King even went about it like a coward because he didn't @ Vilma in the tweet... he thought Vilma wouldn't see it & I guarentee you he was shocked when he saw he Vilma actually saw his tweet...

RaginCajun83 04-04-2012 09:48 AM

I'm proud that Vilma called out ten tons of fun, PK once again shows that he's a hack and NFL company troll. Vilma's tweet also shows that he's pushing back after taking all this bull that the media has been spewing about him and his defense

SmashMouth 04-04-2012 10:31 AM

I hope Vilma is not overly punished. We can use his motivation during our SB run later this year.

saintfan 04-04-2012 11:05 AM

I had a dream last night. In my dream, ESPN made the decision to shut down its web site. It cited poor traffic and indicated this was due to its increasing lean to sensationalism as opposed to actual reporting.

And you're right Danno, it IS beneath both of them. Reporters report...that's fine...REPORT...but leave the assumptions to the reader. Vilma is accurate to say that King (and just about every other 'sports reporter') has become a glorified blogger. There is a BIG difference as you know. "I" blog, because I don't have 'sources'. Sadly those who DO have sources have done a terrible job with this story.

Some LSU player's wonderlic score made an ESPN web page yesterday. Seriously. That's not sports reporting. Ryan Leaf STILL makes headlines on ESPN (and other sites too) and it's sad.

I say give him hell Vilma.

There cut from the same cloth - only King needs more cloth...

skymike 04-04-2012 02:18 PM

maybe peter king can be given a nice sideline pass ....

an accident a la Payton last year would be most unfortunate, but...
... amusing.

AlaskaSaints 04-04-2012 03:26 PM

Good for Vilma. Peter King douchebag.

subguy 04-05-2012 01:01 AM
