Patriots' Ty Law arrested in Miami Beach

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- New England Patriots cornerback Ty Law was arrested after he allegedly led police on a brief foot chase.

Law was driving his 2004 Rolls-Royce early Saturday morning in the South Beach section of the city when an officer flagged him down for a lane violation, Miami Beach police said.

The 30-year-old Pro Bowl player initially pulled over, but police said he sped off, prompting them to chase him about half a block until he stopped again. He then ran away from officers again but they caught up to him after a short chase. According to police, Law told the two officers ``not to touch him because he is a professional athlete.''

Law was charged with failure to obey a police officer and resisting an officer, both misdemeanors.

``He didn't want to go to jail and he didn't want the police to tell him what to do. And that was the problem,'' police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said Monday.

``He decided that he's above the law and he's not and that's why he was arrested,'' Hernandez said.

Law was taken to the Miami-Dade County Jail after his arrest and released early Saturday morning on $1,500 bond.

When reached at his home by The Associated Press, Law declined comment and referred calls to his attorney.

Patriots spokesman Stacey James said the team was ``aware of the reports. We're going to work internally to gather more information.''

In December 2000, U.S. Customs officials found several Ecstasy pills in Law's bag after he was leaving Canada with two other players.

Law said the drug belonged to his cousin, but paid a $700 administrative fine at the scene and was released.

Last month, Law said he no longer wanted to play for the Patriots because of ``irreconcilable differences'' caused by a contract dispute.

That Bilichick must be a terrible character evaluator. Maybe he\'s seen the error of his ways. Maybe this is the real reason for all the turmoil up in New England...or maybe not. ;)

I do believe i questioned Law\'s character (through the espn interview) and said he would be a cancer and would not be worth it to trade for him.

Some questioned me, ,cough cough...Jimbone...cough cough,

:P :P

i remember the ecstacy thing, but it never got much press. while on the field, he\'d be a phenomenal pick up, but off the field in a city known for its hedonism, Law would be like a kid in a candystore and would not be worth the headache.

I know what you are trying to do, but let me give you four words that make the difference:

Two Super Bowl rings.

And I seem to remember some turmoil involving the Patriots, Lawyer Milloy, and the ass-whiping they received from Buffalo in the first week of the season. Didn\'t seem to slow them down last season.

What I\'m trying to do is what BAB? I bet you don\'t realy know why I posted that, but I\'ll tell you. The reason I posted that is because once upon a time one of the Saints players got himself into trouble and Whodat tried to indict Jim Haslett for it. I can dig up the post if required.

So, you tell me, what is it that you think I was trying to do?

By the way, Did Billy B win a Superbowl in his first 4 years? What was HIS record after 4 years as a HC? There\'s a thread on this forum that provides those numbers...not saying they indicate beyond a shadow of a doubt that Haz will ever win a superbowl, but through 4 years he has a better record than the \"four words that make a difference\" guy. It took Bilichick 9 years to win two. After 4 years in the league Jim has a better regular season record and an identical playoff record. Go figure huh?

Pretty much what I was thinking, although not as exact as you put it.

That comment gave it away. There was no mention of him being a terrible character evaluator in his first four years, though. I\'m confused why that was brought up in this argument to begin with. And I\'m sure Ted Bundy was a nice lad for his first 20 years.

Tell me, you seem to get into it with more people here than anyone else, so I gotta know- How do you sit in front of a computer with that stick up your ass?

Well I got you all stirred up once because I got you confused with BnB...it was an honest mistake. Whodat and 08 and Gatorman...well, there\'s history there. Who else do you see me getting into it with?

...and regarding the \"stick\" comment, I\'d say I manage to do it in about the same way you do. ;)

That\'s pretty much it, although it seems to be alot more, I guess with the frequency of the posts.

So you sit on your left cheek? I\'ve since had mine surgically removed. I call it \"BnB v.2.0- a lighter, jovial BnB\"

I thought Bellichik was a good coach?
2 superbowl wins makes him seem like it to me.
Getting rid of tebucky makes him seem more prescient all the time.

Excuse me, but if every guy in the league who ran away from the cops was considered a cancer to his team, then each team in the league would have a handfull. And i will still say that i would give up a 2nd this year and next years 5th for Ty Law in a heartbeat. So what if he comes to New Orleans, beats up a stripper, urinates in the Lucky Dogs, sings terrible karaoke at Cat\'s Meow, and plays hard on Sundays. He is still one of the best CB\'s in the league and i will take him any day.

:o whaaaaaaaat,

did you read the part about the Ecstasy, Yea he is a good corner, but the money he is going to want for that liability, and you would still give up a 2nd.

He tries to flee by vehicle, then he runs, then they find drugs and then he says Bellichik won his super bowls by convincing players they aren\'t good. Would you explain to me what cancer is.

Drugs, troubled past, an idiot = hell we could keep D. Carter and keep our draft pick and have alot more money

Do you really think the only guys in the league on drugs are the ones who get caught? I know you dont wanna hear it, but there are several guys on the Saints who dope it up all the time. When training camp was in Thibodaux, i know of at least 6 guys who were trying to find the connections in town for some drugs. I think, if anything else, this lowers his value in both contract and trade demands, so yes, i would still take him.

Are you telling me that this is from your own personnel account that this happens or do you have some link or something to prove it becuase I won\'t believe that 6 members of the Saints were randomly searching the city for drugs unless proven otherwise. I can understand there are quit a few that live the high life but i don\'t agree with the volume you describe.

And if you witnessed this how were you able to be in position to encounter these acts.

I heard it with my own two ears. I am not gonna name names, but i swear to you that they did ask all the employees, myself included, where they could get some weed. You dont have to believe me, and maybe things have changed because it was two years ago, but it did change the way i felt about certain players. The only proof i have are the 4 other guys who were working with me and who also heard it for themselves. I hate rumors, i hate drugs...and in this case, i hate the truth.

Can you name the Saints players ?? If you can\'t then tell me how many are still on the team???

Maybe they just needed to make a little rope to use to tie their luggage down on their SUV\'s.

I will tell you this..one of them was a first round pick by the Saints. I dont want to just start naming off players because i know how upset i was at the time. Two of the guys are no longer on the team...I dont think they are? But i will tell you this to narrow it down, none of the veterans who were the leaders at the time ever came out. (Howard, Deuce, Brooks, Turley, Fontenot, etc.) It was pretty much first and second year players who just like a lot of the guys on the team today, had yet to grow up.

If you lived in Raceland...then you have certainly heard of Last Call Nightclub in historic downtown Thibodaux.

Last Call is overrated.
