Payton can't contact Saints, Vitt, Loomis before Super Bowl

NFL.com news: Payton can't contact Saints, Vitt, Loomis before Super Bowl

In his judgment upholding suspensions for New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, general manager Mickey Loomis and assistant head coach Joe Vitt, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the parties had to meet certain requirements for their potential reinstatements.
One of those requirements is that they cannot speak with each other while suspended, a source with knowledge of the situation said Monday, citing NFL rules.

That means once Payton's suspension kicks in April 16, he can't speak to Loomis or Vitt -- or have any communication with the team -- until after the Super Bowl. Though Payton's suspension technically ends after the Super Bowl, he has to re-apply for reinstatement and have Goodell review his status to determine if he'll be allowed to coach in the NFL again.
Loomis and Vitt can operate as normal until the start of the regular season, but once their suspensions begin, Vitt can't speak with anyone on the team for six games, Loomis for eight.
What could be an intriguing wrinkle is how the schedule lays out for the Saints. If the NFL schedules a bye week in the first six games, Vitt's and Loomis' suspension could be prolonged for a week. The same applies to Loomis if a bye is scheduled in the first eight games. Last season, the Saints' bye didn't come until Week 11.
The NFL schedule is expected to be released later this month.

See bold areas... Absolute BS!

So bascially, Payton got the same punishment as Williams!

If he has to re-apply, translation, grovel at Kommisar Goodell's feet, for his job back, then his suspension isn't 'just for a year'.

Not necessarily. Payton's suspension is based on if he follows the guidelines. Basically it's a safety net for the NFL so he doesn't get reinstated and they find out he had contact with the team.

Yep. That's Roger covering his ass and making sure Sean doesn't go on the TV or Radio somewhere and tell people how he really feels.

Man this whole thing is so unAmerican as to be completely disgusting. Seriously.

I wonder why these conditions were not laid out before? Any chance that vindictive b**** goddell was saving this in case we appealed?

The silver lining is that the door is still open for early re-instatement ala Roethlisberger

Not going to happen. I'd bet Choupique's left nut on it.

And Roger saying he will reevaluate the loss of the 2013 2nd round pick, I don't see that getting changed either.

So if they see each other in a restaurant, do they have to avoid any conversation at all? Can they say hello? Must both be aware of when the other goes to the restroom in order to avoid contact? Can they wave at each other? Can their wives talk to each other?

What a FusterCluck.

Personally I think the reevaluation is a way to keep Sean from the Super Bowl, because, technically that's when the suspension is over, and when we win the whole damn thing, commish doesn't want that egg on his face, so Sean has to keep away and not rub it in or else the Kommissar will cast him down yet again.

Roger Goodell is a **** sucker.

EDIT: My bad on the colorful metaphor. The filter didn't filter me.

Who will be Payton's carrier pigeon this year?

I remember something about during the lockout, there was Lovey Smith and another Bears player at like.. the McDonald's all star game or something. Anyways, Lovey had to leave the table for the player to come so they didn't violate the rules even though they were close friends and this was about basketball.

It's retarded on every level.

so, technically Sean could raise the trophy again, because the SB would be over

well "technically" the suspension ends the day after the Super Bowl...

Whats killing me is the six game suspension.

I do not believe anyone took the verbiage literally, and basically assumed that in week seven Vitt and Loomis would be back. If they throw a bye week into the first six weeks its a seven week suspension.

Anyone want to put Choupiques left nut on the line for a bye week before week six?

TheOak 04-10-2012 07:21 AM

double post..

SaintsRule11 04-10-2012 08:44 AM

Will they be monitoring Sean Payton's email account or something? This business of restricting communication seems very difficult to enforce.

TheOak 04-10-2012 09:16 AM

There will be people who hate the saints trying to monitor this... hacking email accts, people who work for ATT looking at numbers called....

Trust me, there is a Viking/Falcon fan ready to dedicate his season to outing a communication between Payton and the team.

So basically Goodell is acting like a 3rd grade school teacher that seperates the children when they talk to much? Really tho...not being able to talk to these guys who he probably considers friends, especially vitt, for a whole season is stupid. So if, God Forbid, Vitt were to have a health scare and is in the hospital your telling me that his friend SP can't visit him because Goodell said they can't talk during the season? Sweet Baby Jesus Goodell is a such a spitefull douche....

TheOak 04-10-2012 10:13 AM

Baaaaad internet

I wonder if Goodell would make a concession if Payton came across Vitt in a car accident?

Mardigras9 04-10-2012 01:57 PM

So does that mean he can't come down on the field after the final whistle in the superbowl to celebrate the win with the Saints? Sorry already asked.......jumped the gun.

TheOak 04-10-2012 02:11 PM

He would have to be in the Dome for that.... I suppose that would depend of Goodell defines visual as contact.

saintfan 04-10-2012 02:55 PM

I think the whole "we'll review it after the season" BS is to keep Sean and the Saints from doing just that...having him come out as soon as we win it all.
