Up until now, this contract standoff between the New Orleans Saints and quarterback Drew Brees hasn't done any real damage.

Up until now, the need hasn't been felt to criticize anyone involved. Being no stranger to how these negotiations work, and frankly it would have been surprising if a deal got done before any real deadline pressure was involved.

So, no, Brees hasn't been too greedy. General Manager Mickey Loomis hasn't been too cheap. Agent Tom Condon hasn't been too cutthroat. And Owner Tom Benson hasn't been too ambivalent.

But if they don't get this deal done in the next few weeks, then they're all too stubborn.

If Brees still isn't on the field by the time the Saints start OTAs (organized team activities) in mid-May, then they'll all be hurting each other.

I'm thinking it gets done this week, maybe not by Monday but sometime this week.

From what I've heard Benson met with Brees Friday and is supposed to meet with him again sometime this week...

Drew has been the only person ever to make us a true superbowl contender. we can talk about coaches and GMs, but in the final word, the players on the field have to make things happen. In my humble opinion, Drew alone can salvage this season no matter what the new Flag league tries to impose upon us. So what is Drew really worth to the Saints? A top tier QB, which he is, or the ONLY hope of salvation this season for our team?
