The New Orleans Saints announced today that they re-signed WR Courtney Roby to a one-year contract. The announcement was made by Saints’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.Roby first signed with the Saints as a free agent during the 2008 season and has served as one of the club’s most valuable players on their special teams coverage and return units. A former third-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2005, the six-year NFL veteran has played in 49 regular season games with the Saints, averaging 25.6 yards on 94 kickoff returns with one touchdown, ranked fourth in franchise history in kickoff return average, while recording 51 special teams tackles and two special teams fumble recoveries. The 6-0, 189 pound former Indiana University standout was voted by his teammates as the club’s team captain on special teams in 2011 and led the team with 13 special teams tackles, also tying for the club lead with three stops in the postseason. The club also announced that they have waived LB Jerimiha Hunter.

Correction!! Courtney Roby re-signed!!

Mods please correct!!

|Mitch| 04-16-2012 05:17 PM

he's a decent special teamer

FinSaint 04-16-2012 05:18 PM

That's unfortunate... I mean that they waived Hunter. I was really looking for great things from him in the future, but I guess his injury hasn't healed as well as they had hoped.

I know I've made that same mistake a dozen times.:p

Strange re-signing. A special teams gunner over anything else?

|Mitch| 04-16-2012 05:26 PM

and depth for Sproles in the return game

I doubt they're finished signing folks. We need special teamers too, and he's probably an above average STer.

Besides, he'll probably struggle to make the team.

ChrisXVI 04-16-2012 05:47 PM

Yeah you're right. With limited draft picks and cap space I suppose bringing back a proven special teams stud for what I would imagine is a very minimum one year contract is probably the smart move. Hopefully Joe Morgan takes his spot though as the back-up return man next year though.

Wow! Reggie Roby! I guess it is to put a little pressure on Morstead. But, I thought he passed back in 2005 or 2006.

;)

Nothing much different than what's already been said - but here's my link anyways.

Say what you will, but that guy scraps and fights his way into a spot on the roster every year, and does whatever is asked of him. Who else besides him on special teams, is going to actually tackle anybody?

Chris Chamberlain! Kid is a beast on special teams

AlaskaSaints 04-16-2012 11:28 PM

First I need an apology for the double-fumble that hastened our playoff exit in S.F.

A full, written apology specifically addressing the fumble AND read that apology in Champion Square.

I'm not terribly excited about this. He hasn't been that great lately.

dizzle88 04-17-2012 04:36 AM

As long as he doesn't return kicks anymore I'll be happy, still can forget him muffing the catch on the kick return and giving the 9ers the ball at our 9 yard line when we were on the verge of coming back

AllSaints 04-18-2012 08:55 PM

Roby may get more plays in the O with meachum out

skymike 04-19-2012 04:30 PM

besides, he could bring that watch and keep track of the hangtime. (if it was Reggie)

Welcome back CR! very underrated player.

Beastmode 04-19-2012 04:38 PM

I agree SM underrated player. Yeah, he had a senior moment in SF but so did Sproles and nobody is calling for his apololgy. What I like is he can help you in a lot of areas. You always need proven guys like that.

OK.."Help you in a lot of areas", that's going a bit far. He is a GREAT gunner. That's it, period paragraph. He can't make the team as a receiver. His returning kicks is painful to watch. Guy is a straight north south runner with 0 moves.

skymike 04-19-2012 06:22 PM
