Its possible the NFL might be prolonging player suspensions because they can't support them in court. So, they are allowing the media to dig up as much as they can on the saints to gain fan favor, hopefully find the smoking gun they desperately need, and will never release the evidence they have.

This at least seems plausible because of the way the NFL has dragged this out for months, seeing as they don't need approval from the NFLPA for anything, and have never cared what they thought before.

As if we didn't have enough bad publicity already.
More meetings, more investigations, more confusion and more lying.
States attorney and Federal wire tapping...are you serious?
September is just waaaaaaayyyyyyyy too far away.

"Any reason NFL.com isn't showing ANYTHING on this???"

Because they are a bunch of cowards at the NFL. Why not sit back and let ESPN take all the heat.

Maybe because the investigation hasn't been done & there's no proof?

HALO CONSPIRICY THEORY #1

Ok JimmyB (BTW great thread idea) - you want a conspiracy theory? I'll give you one.

The following is a creating of my own mind and not exactly true...

It's possible the NFL will get their panties sued and Goodell could get in heaps of trouble with the owners if he turns around AFTER the draft and tries to suspend like 20 Saints defensive players.

So the NFL fans the flames of a loser journalist trying to make a name for himself to further his career.

The journalist breaks another BAD NEWS story about the Saints. The news does not come from the NFL, rather ESPN. NFL denies knowledge of the story keeping them from being sued, but the damage is done further to the Saints reputation.

So after the draft, when Goodell takes another jab at the Saints by doing mass suspensions, the general consensus (from the mob) is THAT'S OK BECAUSE THE SAINTS ARE EVIL.
Either way, for the NFL to "plant" this story is a dangerous business. I do smell something foul... I just can't locate the direction of the odor.

Because when the defamation and slander suits are filed the NFL does not want to have to put a Fleur-de-Lis in its shield.

HALO CONSPIRICY THEORY #2 - THE ROZELLE - GOODELL LEGACY

This is my second conspiracy theory from off top my head. This may not be true, but you make the call...
After the NFL - AFL merger, the Superbowl was created and is played in a "host city." That host city is the home of an NFL team, usually one with a new or renovated stadium to showcase to the WORLD displaying the great coliseums of the NFL.

One problem that was never worked out: what if the football franchise in the host city goes to the Superbowl?? It goes without saying the NFL could lose much foot traffic of fans traveling to the host city to watch their team play in the big game. Only 1 half of the teams playing would have to show, the home team could watch the game from HOME.

These fears are OLD because at one time the Superbowl made its money exclusively from ticket sales and merchandizing, whereas now although ticket sales are high and merchandizing is plenty, the NFL makes more from TV revenue and advertising.

But for the NFL, this WAS and STILL IS a dilemma.

Last year, the Saints defense was marginal AT BEST! Even with that marginal defense, I (Halo) believed that had they stepped up just a little at the end of the 49ers game, that probably the Saints would have another Superbowl ring.

I think the NFL owners and front office believe this too. With New Orleans the host Superbowl city for 2013 and after the Saints rid themselves of Gregg Williams and replaced him with Spagnolo, it was becoming apparent that the Saints were setup to make that Superbowl run HOME to New Orleans.

So Bountygate, a nuclear option in the works, was unleashed. The head of the snake (Sean Payton) was cut, but Mickey Loomis WAS STILL BRINGING IN FRESH TALENT AND it appears the Saints defense will be stronger.

So the NFL is going for the DOUBLE-NUKE option, creating a rumored "Spygate" on top of the already glowing Bountygate.

Basically the NFL is trying to use any method to STOP New Orleans from making a potential home run to a Superbowl ON ACCOUNT OF FEAR!!! A FEAR THAT STRETCHES FROM ROZELLE TO GOODELL!!!!
And that's my second conspiracy theory from Halo's Masterpiece Theater.

The only thing that I can think of:

The NFL didn't find out about it until the OTL report yesterday. I'm thinking that they don't want to comment about it until they have something to report (good or bad)

Very sound in theory..... Which is why I don't think it could be the reason.
