White Says He is Eager for Opportunity in New Orleans

1 Attachment(s)
Q: Does it excite you to know that you are coming to a place that has had success taking a chance on smaller school players?
A: “The Saints are a great team. They do a great job in the draft every year. It doesn’t matter where you come from, big school or small school. As long as you, the player, have the right intentions going in to camp, you will be fine.”

Q: How much cornerback did you play? Do they see you as a safety?
A: “I played three years of corner. I am not sure, I haven’t talked to them yet. I am sure they will try me out at corner first and maybe move me to safety later on down the road.”

Q: Did you play safety or corner last year?
A: “Corner.”

Q: Can you talk about the combine experience and what you did to prepare? How do you think you did?
A: “It was a great experience. Just to be around the top players in the nation, it was a great experience. I feel like I did very well in all of the categories, in all of the position drills. And the interviews. I did well in all of it. I felt good about the combine.”

Q: What did you run in the 40-yard dash at the combine?
A: “4.47 at the combine.”

Q: What about at your pro day?
A: “4.40 flat.”

Q: Where are you today and who are you with? Did you expect to be drafted around this time?
A: “We expected to be drafted in the fifth or sixth round. I am at home in Atlanta right now with my family. Proud to be a Saint.”

Q: Do you think your athleticism stands out?
A: “Yeah, definitely. I feel like I can play anywhere in the secondary including special teams. I feel like I am a ballhawk. I am going to go get the ball if it’s in the air.”

Good confidence in himself. Hope he backs it up with great play.

This answer made me chuckle:

Quote:

Q: Are you looking forward to going against Drew Brees in practice?
A: “Oh yeah. It’s going to be fun picking off some balls from Drew Brees. It is going to be real fun.”

Rugby Saint II 04-28-2012 05:41 PM

Just from the feel I get I would probably try him at FS. That would allow Jenkins to move to nickle where I think he would do better.

I just hope he can deal with the disappointment, LOL

This guy has confidence in his abilities, I'll give him that:

Q: Who would you compare yourself to in the NFL today?
A: “Charles Woodson. I feel like he is a complete defensive back. He can do it all: tackle, cover, zone player, man player, he can do it all. I like to compare myself to him.”

dueceloose 04-28-2012 05:54 PM

The little tape the showed on him looked promising. As long as he works hard and is a fast learner this shows some upside.

hagan714 04-29-2012 01:47 AM

yeah i just read a of his pro day reviews, despite a solid combine he ran everything they asked him to do. that alone says something.

dizzle88 04-29-2012 03:02 AM

He's confident in his abilities, he'll probably get beat by our WR's in camp for a while but he stays confident and I think he could contribute

If we work him out at SS, Harper may see reduced time if this guy is better in coverage - he's labelled himself as a ball hawk, something we've been missing for a while, let's see if he can prove it

Danno 04-29-2012 08:11 AM

He certainly thinks like a CB. I like that in DB's.

I think he's destined to become a safety, but if the staff can coach him up he may make a good nickel/dime back.

TheDeuce 04-29-2012 02:31 PM

Well-spoken, lot of confidence which is much needed as a defensive back in the NFL. Don't know much about his productivity at Samford...

FinSaint 04-30-2012 05:03 PM

I was under the impression that the was primarily a safety, but this is good news if he actually has primarily played as a CB.

I believe he played CB for 3 years in college...

I like the guys answers. I get sick of the same ole:

A) "I'm really humbled and honored just to be here."

A) "I just want to give it my 100% best effort"

A) "This is a great defense I'm coming into and I just want to help add a missing piece"

A) Scott Shanle is a great linebacker and future Hall of Famer"

darstep 05-01-2012 12:18 PM

6'0" is better than 5'10", that gives him 1 check on my sheet.
He thinks he's a ball hawk, and not a chicken hawk, another check on my sheet.
If we are going to play press like Spags said in his post draft interview,
then this guy may be strong enough to hold guys up for 1/2 a second or so.
But then you have to be able to turn your hips and go if the gate comes open.
4.4 - 4.7 isn't bad especially if the streaker's timing has been thrown off.
I hope he makes a name for himself.
Man, I wish I could get down to Airline Dr. and see these youngsters get humbled.

He did a 4.39 on his Pro Day workout at Samford, so he does have some speed to him.

I'm skeptical that he went from a 4.55 to a 4.39. Thats a HUGE jump.

Was he injured on his combine runs?

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football program held its annual Pro Day for NFL Scouts Thursday morning at Seibert Stadium.

Representatives from the Atlanta Falcons, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers put former Samford players Alex Davis, Chris Evans, David Strider and Corey White through workouts on Thursday.

White had an impressive performance, running the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds. White also had a good showing in the vertical jump (41.5) and broad jump (10.6).

White also performed for the scouts at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis last month. He said, despite having a good showing at the combine, he wanted to come out and see if he could improve at Samford's Pro Day.

"I just like to compete," White said. "I always like to compete with myself and try to get a better time in everything I do. That's why I came out here and did it again."

White said performing at the NFL Combine helped him at Samford's Pro Day.

"It was a great experience for me, being one of the only players from Samford to ever get to the combine," White said. "So, I just tried to go out there and do my best, so hopefully it'll work out for the best."

Thats comforting. I can live with 4.47 (Oddly enough, thats exactly what Ingram and Ivory ran at their pro-days)

I wonder why 4.55 was listed at the other two sites? They've always used official NFL combine numbers before.

Did he run the 40 more than once at the combine? That's all I can think of...

hagan714 05-02-2012 08:04 AM

good god i hate those pre draft sites. they all differ with the data. i always kinda go with the average.

now the really big question was the 4.40 into the wind or was it at his back?
at the combine were all the doors closed when he ran?
dry field wet field or just a morning dew?

pherein 05-02-2012 08:32 AM

Hmmm.. has any draft pick ever said " Man this sucks, I hate that frikin team, this is the worst day of my life."
Well, besides anyone drafted by the Browns.
