Only in Louisiana!!

Here’s an off-beat story. Before the Louisiana House passed a law to continue a tax break for the New Orleans Hornets, one lawmaker proposed an amendment that would have required the Saints to agree to a five-year contract with quarterback Drew Brees. Tom Benson owns both the Saints and the Hornets. The amendment didn’t pass, but I like the lawmaker’s creativity.

Yes and no.

Yes, because we all know a deal will get done and Brees will retire as a Saint.

No, because after all the crap the Saints and their fans have been through, we are like a starving dog at a buffet table waiting on word that Brees has signed!

Was signing Bunkley not good enough!?!

Not sure its too big a deal (Drew's Contract) anymore. Enough time has passed. Whats left to talk about.... I would bet the St Louis Cardinals (baseball) fans never thought Puholz would leave St Louis.....

The time for postering is long past due... The inevitability of Drew signing is no longer.... All this crap... Mr. Benson needs to make a "Business" decision and if, in his opinion, he has to over pay... then over pay...

Drew needs top be on Airline Drive NOW...

Even though it was shot down, that's some good stuff there

I'm getting tired on waiting on Drew as well, but a deal will get done and when it does things will finally get back to normal for the Saints (well what normal will be this year)

My counter argument, the Saints are up to the limit on the salary cap this year, every week we get a new press release regarding players restructuring for the same amount just in ways that lower their cap room, front office has been recently distracted (you're welcome for that understatement), no rumor(s) of ANY team approaching Breesus. Every indication points to the fact this is being worked on. Just takes time given how royally screwed the franchise is regarding Cap figures. Its not posturing, it's the business side.

I don't see how you can think it's no big deal. Did you see any of the Colts games last year?

I'm not saying we would be as bad as the Colts, but it wouldn't be very pretty.

Apples and oranges, every indication is there that Drew is getting resigned and both sides are working on it. Just folks are loosing patience. It was clear manning was going to be nowhere in sight.

Following in the fine foot steps of Huey P. Long. A long and storied tradition.

Drew can't leave New Orleans like Poolballs did St. Louis. He has been tagged and can be tagged for 3 years so the only way Drew can play football is to sign with the Saints. The ball is in his and Condom's court! But as someone else posted in another thread, I do believe a deal will be done this week now that the suspensions have been handed out.

Vilma restructured but I don't know if that money frees any cap space.
Then again Vilma might be still playing this season...

Vilma's restructuring freed up a few mil (think it was 1-2 mil per year) in cap space, his suspension frees up much more (all).

True but the Indiana State Constitution specifically prohibits this kind of legislation. A Colts-Manning law would have been defeated in court as unconstitutional so it would bind neither party and it would do nothing but cost taxpayers money.

I imagine a law specific to Brees or Brees and the Saints would fail in Lousiana as well, although I have never had the occasion to study the Louisiana constitution (I took the Indiana bar exam). Likely, this is a stunt to get laymen to vote for the guy who proposed it.

Saintsfan4ever 05-03-2012 08:34 PM

I got two words for ya; slippery slope.
I want a Brees contract as much as any Saints fan, but there's just some places government shouldn't go. Levying taxes is a function of government, manipulating contracts between private individuals and/or businesses is NOT. This isn't North Korea.. yet.

This is why there should be public arse-whoopings...

This moron should have the living schiott beat of 'em...

The state's in a fiscal crisis, the only spending being cut includes those people who could use the help...

And this moron, freaking moron, is pulling dumb arse schiott like this...

Stay out of sports, you weren't good enough to play, and quit wasting our tax dollars, start voting term limits and budget compliance...

Drew will get paid enough, Condon will be told to STFU, and there will be enough left to sign the players necessary to win another championship so Drew can make the real money in endorsements...

...there, now I feel better...
