I hate to be a jerk and defend Drew, but if the team needs leadership in the locker room or on the sidelines right now, then they need to PAY FOR IT. Nothing is free in this world. The Saints have enjoyed a VERY cheap ride on Drew's back for a long time now.

Now that the player suspensions are out, it will move forward again.

Being a leader means taking responsibility on your shoulders, motivating others, creating an environment where success can thrive. Leadership is a SKILL SET, just like throwing a football or having good footwork is a skill set. That's why generals make more in the army than privates. And being the proven best in your field means that you can command more for your services. That's why Jazz Fest pays Bruce Springsteen on the big stage so enormously much more than what they pay Sunpie Barnes or Rockin' Dopsie or the other acts on the smaller dinky stages.

For many years now, the Saints have been dining at Commander's Palace with Drew each week, and only paying family po-boy joint prices for it. (for those from out of town, Commander's is a very fancy restaurant in New Orleans.) That has to change. Think of it as, Drew has been floating some of his own money each week to cover the difference in the check at Commander's, so we could all eat together, the Saints have been paying less than they should have, and now he wants to split it more fairly, so that we can all keep going to Commander's Palace with him each Sunday.

A party at somebody's house is fun...but at some point later in the party, you will need to pass the hat and collect money, and send someone out to the store for more beer. The party started cheap, but now you have to pay to keep it going. That time for the Saints is now.

I do know what you are feeling, though. It is a tough time for everybody. Hang in there. Remember, Drew already stuck up for both Sean Payton PERSONALLY, and stuck up for the players in his role in the NFLPA, by first asking for the evidence and then saying he was disappointed that there was none given. Drew still loves you too, he just has to show it in different ways right now.

If I am a Saints player... and Drew is indeed my leader..

I would have to rethink my opinion of Drew if he did not hold his ground on his own contract.

Look I am as big a fan of Drew as anyone.... but you and DREW should also remember that 6 years ago NOBODY wanted him... We signed him for considerable money that would have been thrown away had he not been able to make it out....

So before we go off claiming Drew as some poor underappreciated soul here, lets remember the past.... Yes the Saints should recognize all he has done.... but perhaps a little discount on Drew's part might also be in order

Six years ago is a LONG freaking time in the past to be asking Drew for a hometown discount.... That debt was paid long ago... like maybe after the first NFC Championship game he took us to. I supposed it's true that NOBODY wanted him in 2006....no one else then at that exact precise moment in January/February when we were looking for a QB. But there can be NO DOUBT based on the last six years of play, that his shoulder would have healed up and he would have gotten a chance to play elsewhere eventually for somebody. It's not like the Saints signed him out of charity or pity, or did him a FAVOR by signing him as their starting first-string QB. It wasn't even really a "gamble" on the Saints' part to sign him. They knew exactly what he could do.

Would everyone please realize for a second that the Saints aren't actually allowed to offer him that much, even if they wanted to? They would have to cut some 2.5 million dollars in other players to meet that demand. So it isn't just money here, Drew and his agent are asking the Saints to cut other players entirely to satisfy their demands.

Drew is also laying the ground work to scratch the franchise tag in the next agreement.
They were trying to nix that thing in this CBA and were somewhat squeezed into accepting it.
Players don't like it and want it gone. They want to build an arsenal of documented player TAG
deficiencies for the next round of negotiations, and right now, Drew is one of the ring leaders.
There are a whole lot of other player's money tied to Brees' contract.
He's really not just being selfish.

Contract value reflects "present" situation... Yes the Saints game a lot then, he has also given one hell of a ROI.

Wasn't Drew the guy who organized practices last year during the lock out? If I'm not mistaken I think he paid for that too.
Still seems to me the guy is worth the money and they need to pay him.

I am as big a fan of Drew as anybody out there. He has been a source of inspiration for our team in leadership and performance and Certainly deserves to be paid what he is worth. In my eyes he is the best QB in the NFL at the moment. It is beyond my comprehension the monetary amounts. Why cant he just be happy to get paid around a million more than the top paid QB in the NFL. I certainly am no millionaire, but it seems to me like once you get past the first five million anything else is irrelevant. C'mon Condon, quit being a greedy leech and let Drew sign already. SapperSaint was right, Condon does need to be kicked in the nads on live TV

Now that the player suspensions are finished and bounty-gate is finally over, I'm expecting Drew to be signed shortly. That's just about all that's left on Loomis's punchlist...
