A lot of players now are donating their brains to CTE research. I think we all know that in a couple of decades, the game won't look anything like what we see today just like it doesn't look like it did 50 years ago.

We'll be playing flag football in 20 years. :broccoli:

Very sad indeed.

This has been happening with hockey players, especially those who were enforcers.

Very sad.

Ok. I heard he "shot himself in the chest". And that somehow equals an "apparent suicide"?

I thought the exact same thing, but then after I read what saintfan wrote about him not wanting to harm his brain, it does make sense in a way even though it doesn't make sense.

It's not like you can't do it that way, but it certainly isn't the easiest way.

Some other former player who's name I cannot recall shot himself in the chest too. That's why I said what I said...Dave Duerson - that was his name. There are a number of videos on YouTube about the whole concussion thing. I watched a lot of it after this whole bounty thing surfaced. It's disturbing how the league essentially went against every doctor on the planted up until about 2007 when the lawsuits started coming...

"Apparent suicide" was believed before they verified that he shot himself.

It was apparent, they investigated, then confirmed it.

Comapred to the early days of football you can almost say that now. No passing, no pads, no helmets. What has trumped the precautions are size and strength. The only thing to trump size and strength is to minimize contact and that is exactly where the NFL is heading. This sounds crazy but I could see players wearing some big red push button..you press it hard enough and they light up red and a computer determines where they were stopped..I'm not kidding either, give it 20 years.

Very sorry to hear about Junior, sending prayers out to his family. Still a very sad story.
