Interesting Angle By the NFLPA

They have filed a grievance stating Goodell HAD NO AUTHORITY to punish players prior to Aug 4th before the new agreement took effect. LOL

The Union says "in connection with entering into the 2011 CBA, the NFL released all players from conduct engaged in prior to the execution of the CBA, on August 4, 2011."

I found it on ESPN on my way to harass Pat Yasinskas again this morning. I refuse to link to it.

I'm absolutely enjoying the hell out of this. :broccoli:

Interesting. If true, I'm kind of surprised that the NFL's supposed team of ace legal-beagles did not notice it.

pherein 05-04-2012 08:36 AM

Wow, if true, I guess the NFLPA is serious about their support. This is typical legal harassment and call for grievance to make the NFL respond with statements before a legal proceeding. Kind of getting all your ducks in order stuff.

SaintGup 05-04-2012 08:40 AM

Oh please let this be true!

niteadept 05-04-2012 08:46 AM

NFLPA is in a tight spot, but they need to challenge it. This has been handled by a man who shows potential of being a dictator in a third world country. I'm over it and him.

saintfan 05-04-2012 08:49 AM

I don't see this as a tight spot at all. Pretty clear to me. SHOW THE EVIDENCE. That's what the Union wants. That's exactly what it SHOULD want. Look, if our guy is guilty, then fine. That's what we agreed to (even though we don't like it). BUT, show us the evidence.

Now this angle I like, and if true. Eat it Goodell!

here is a link that briefly covers it.

With Star Caps, A judge ruled the NFL violated a state law of not notifying players within 3 days of the violation. That's the main reason why it was tied up so so long in court.

All the players need is one potential violation of a State or Federal law to do the exact same thing and it looks like the NFLPA is presenting several violations regarding the CBA contract. This could go on for years.

This wouldn’t have an affect on SP,ML,and JV would it?

pherein 05-04-2012 09:45 AM

yes, it would

Brandon428 05-04-2012 10:05 AM

This is by far the CRAZIEST off season EVER! Great news though! Looks like even if “bounty gate” were true there’s nothing Goodell can do about it!

Don't believe so. They're not part of the players union.

oh, thats true, coaches are not part of the CBA

Brandon428 05-04-2012 10:14 AM

Thats what I thought. :( I really wish we could get SP back!

RaginCajun83 05-04-2012 10:20 AM

Well Sean is a "former player" so would he fall under that umbrella?

TheOak 05-04-2012 10:34 AM

I honestly do not think so as they are not part of the NFLPA or the CBA.

The coaches have a separate Union and contract.

Actually they don't have a union which is one of the reasons why ML and SP had to just accept their punishments. They don't have a union to fight for their best interests.

TXGSP 05-04-2012 10:57 AM

From what I read the coaches union is pretty tightly woven with the NFLPA, but think there is a suit overe control.

The NFLCA was using NLFPA office space and believe a suit was made by the NFLPA against the NFLCA. It appears there is also some question about who controls the NFLCA.

NFLPA sues coaches' union in DC court - ESPN

No matter what why didn't we hear anything about the NFLCA during the issues with SP, JV - if they were involved in teh NFLCA. ML wouldn't be covered by NFLPA due to his positioin.

There is another thread about this but my reply goes something like this:

Here is a 81tch of an angle for you.

What "if" one shred of evidence shows that "things" took place between August 4th 2011 and now. There is a whole entire season in there.

Its back on again..... With a twist.

Fujita gets no punishment, went to browns after 2009 season
Hargrove walks also. He signed with the Seahawks on Sep 9 2011

Smith and Vilma.... Still have to fight.

since he was a 'scab' in 1987, I don't think the union is going to show him much support

only if it was deemed that the alleged offenses occured whilst he was a "former player" or is that before the last CBA aggreement in August 2011. ;)
