Could you, with a clear conscious, take hearsay and half-truths, knowingly manipulate their meanings, and then use that fabrication, carefully leaked to the media, to cost people who have otherwise done nothing to you personally or professionally millions of dollars and potentially end their careers?

At 43 years of age I have worked with plenty of people that I didn't care much for - some even at all, but I couldn't do it. I couldn't do it and look my kids in the eye. I couldn't do that and sleep at night, even to a sworn enemy, much less somebody or some people who'd never done anything to me.

Who could DO something like that?

I'm telling you guys and gals, this dude has to be stopped. Those of you who are tired of hearing all the noise - those who are otherwise ready to just 'get it over with' and get the season started. I beg you to reconsider.

It's obvious that the two of you haven't met.

Oh, but you know, it's obvious that the Saints ran a bounty program (sarcasm). Roger wouldn't just make it up (still waiting for proof). They told us to stop (what exactly?). The difference is we offered money (again, proof please). It's ok that other teams were talkin' smack about hurting opponents, because they never meant to hurt anyone (hmm, that sounds familiar... did we say that? Nah, couldn't be).

So you know, pretty cut and dry. We're just homers.

I have to look myself in the mirror; no way I could do what Roger has done. What really gets me is how long all this has taken, I mean Roger took zero time on the appeals denying the coaches seemingly as they were walking out the door. Just the length it took to get the penalties announced in the first place and the lack of evidence shown

He majored in economics. I don't believe he's a lawyer.

Who better to stop him than us. Unlike the rest of America we are used to being beaten, blooded, close to losing, and then we stand up.

Goodell isn't even close to the worst we have had to faced. I really don't care who is over this. Any true New Orleanian is not going to take this from anyone. Be it rational or irrational, a message needs to be sent.

I think what we have here is a clear-cut case of absolute power & corrupting ... that and I think the owner's (with the exception of maybe Benson) are 100% behind Goodell in trying to change the culture of the league and protect their investments from current & future player lawsuits ... hell, even a former punter (Jim Arnold, Detroit) has joined the fricken' former player's concussion lawsuit ... a punter for crissake ... it's no wonder Goodell is trying to make it appear as if the NFL is concerned about player safety, next it'll be the referees & the guys who move the chains & hold the down markers!

There are any number of things Roger can do to increase player safety. Fining and suspending players for a pay-for-performance scheme with trumped evidence, half-truths, and hearsay, is NOT one of them.

Well look at it from the other perspective. If all of that energy was targeted at a person or persons that you didn't like, who was a pain in your ass and a thorn in your side, and who was repeatedly sticking in your craw or doing things that made you look bad, and you had tried to "get" this person or persons before for other things and failed; then those half truths and hearsay and costing someone millions of dollars and destroying somebody's career, would all seem pretty appealing to you. Especially the ending-the-careers part. Problem solved.

Look. We were originally told it was this MASSIVE, organized scandal, with 27 players (!) and multiple coaches and various people involved, lasting over three entire years, and there was a massive conspiracy and coverup by individuals all throughout the Saints organization. Now, it turns out that every single person who has been fingered or punished so far for "Bountygate," they either (a) have a track record of causing previous litigation or PR problems for Goodell and the league (b) have done something that has made Goodell's office look bad or (c) is a representative of the player's union that has already done (a) and (b) repeatedly to Goodell.

You don't get to be as powerful and successful as Roger Goodell is, by having a clear conscience and by doing the right thing and by being all Ghandi. You get there by being a mother****er like Richard Nixon, and by scheming and manipulating and socking it to everybody who is your rival or enemy or who makes you look bad. Payton. Loomis. Ornstein. Williams. Smith. Vilma. Fujita and that pesky player's union. If Goodell were rid of all of these, think how his life would be much easier and less full of headaches. I'm convinced that's what this is really about.

The massive conspiratorial "bounty" program that we were told was so huge and pervasive, turned out to conveniently only involve the same people that Goodell has already tangled with in the past, for other things, or people who have said negative things about him or his policies. How very tidy and convenient.

At the end of the day, I'm just a fan and it's just a game. Yes I am passionate about the Saints but there are bigger fish to fry and life isn't always fair. So not going to stress this issue which really doesn't hurt me on a daily basis, especially in the offseason.

We'll see if Goodell eventually coughs up the evidence (or lack thereof) as I'm sure he's holding it back now to build up the drama. It is frustrating that he is doing so.
