Browns linebacker Scott Fujita maintains innocence in New Orleans Saints’ pay-for-hits scandal

BEREA, Ohio — Forced to fight for his name in a “public trial” against the NFL, Browns linebacker Scott Fujita vowed he did not participate in the New Orleans Saints’ bounty program.

Fujita, suspended for three games by the league for allegedly contributing “a significant amount” of money to a pay-for-hits pool while he played for the Saints, maintained his innocence on Tuesday in his first public comments since the disturbing scandal broke.

“That is not true,” he said.

The 10-year veteran has appealed the penalty handed down by commissioner Roger Goodell. Fujita, however, said he’s more determined to clear his name and protect his image than making sure he’s in Cleveland’s starting lineup for the season opener on Sept. 9.

“Listen,” he said, his voice rising. “My reputation is a lot more valuable to me than three game checks (about $644,000). My track record speaks for itself.”

I saw this too. I'm telling you the ball is rolling and I don't believe ANYTHING the NFL says or does anymore. They've lost my trust, and I think everyone else is begging to see this.

This knee pad thing is just another Goodell publicity stunt. PATHETIC!

All the jokes I've made about Fujita - well, mostly about his wife - since he left the Saints have mostly been out of frustration that he's no longer with the Saints.

He was one of my favorite players on the team, and although, he wasn't a superstar at his position in any regard, he was a good LB and the Saints have missed his presence dearly ever since.

This coming season is shaping up to be the first season after Fujita departed that the Saints will have a better LB corps than when he played in the black and gold, which makes me so excited!

As for the article in question, it's good that the players suspended are not just rolling over before the commissioner, but are fighting the punishments - however futile it may be in the end. Fujita has to fight this because of his position with the PA, and it also serves the PA's best interest to have his name cleared, which bodes well for the Saints' defense case any way you look at it.

i say add the pro bowl in 2013 as another stunt to get the city and front office to pressure vilma to drop it.i say stick the 2013 pro bowl were the sun does not shine. As tacky as it is it would not surprise me at all.

I tell you what else is pathetic. Trying to make up for shafting the Saints with the bounty allegations and punishments by having NOLA host a pro bowl. It's like RG knows he used NO to set a example and is trying to kiss our a** to make up for it.

I hope that Fujita does join up with Vilma just to add even more heat to Goddell to come out and actually show what "evidence" he keeps talking about as for the Pro Bowl I know that it would generate more money for the city but I'd much rather they just get rid of the Pro Bowl, its a joke now and the only reason that NO is in the running is so that Goddell can save face with the city
