Carmichael: "This Is a Great Opportunity for Chase Daniel"

1 Attachment(s)
When you talk about what you expected from the two drafted rookie offensive lineman in Andrew Tiller and Marcel Jones as well as Nick Toon and what you have seen from them so far?
“First of all regarding the offensive lineman, I would think, during this type of camp, its more about, assignment and technique than it is driving a guy off the ball, because they’re just taking a couple steps and letting up with the pace of this camp. So as far as receiving an evaluation of the linemen we are going to have to wait until we get pads on. but as far as Toon is concerned, it was a repeat of what he had been hearing at rookie camp, so he was into it. Today was a day where we threw a lot at them, but he’s picking it up well, playing a couple of different positions for us. Like I said before, he has good speed and excellent hands.”

Without Drew Brees it been the relative same with Chase Daniel and Sean Canfield, or do you have to tweak it at all.
“It’s going to be different until he (Brees) gets here, but as far as those two guys have done, these first 3 days have been real positive. The ball stayed off the ground, and for them it’s about assignment---are they making the right decisions with the ball, location? I would say all that’s been very positive, maybe a throw or two here missed that we’ve seen Drew make, but it’s been positive.”

How has Daniel done as far as his leadership, work in the classroom and film study?
“I think Chase has really taken it, since he’s had a chance to be here the past few years, and see how Drew does it, and those two are very competitive, outside the football world. So he’s very much like Drew in that aspect.”

How is he in pushing? Do you think he could push for a starting position at some point?
“He knows his role. He definitely is a guy who wants to become a starter in this league, but he knows this is Drew Brees’ team, and it’s going to be his team. But with him (Drew) not being here, it’s his (Daniel’s) team to run.”

Has that brought anything out that you normally don’t see?
“No. I think we knew he always had it in him, similar characteristics to Drew, but you see more of a leadership role from him right now, telling guys what to do in the huddle, having seen what Drew did the past few years, and doing that.”

Full interview.

I think the guy may have a chance in the future but I hope it does not happen here until the time is really right. I dont think it is now and I dont have the confidence he can lead this team to a title. Brees has the mental aspect of the game downpat that is what makes a great player in any position just think that takes a bit of seasoning before an athlete can achieve that.

I think Chase would do well as the starter, with the offensive players we have around him...

With the looks of the defense we will be fielding this year, we "shouldn't" have to put as many points on the board as is the norm to get the win.

Call me crazy, I just think Chase can handle it and from what I hear from OTA's the rest of the #1s trust his ability too!

I just can't imagine this team without Drew.

Hey, next man up !

Chase had seized the oppurtunity when it has presented itself. I just hope for now, it continues to present itself in the preseason!!!!

New Orleans Saints will benefit from development of quarterback Chase Daniel

When the media was granted access to the OTA’s on Thursday, they noted that it was strange not seeing “#9″ on the field, but Daniel was handling the session well. Mike Triplett of The Times-Picayune reported he actually scrambled for a potential 60 yard touchdown.

I can, and I still think they'd be playoff contenders.

But instead of a 12 to 13 win team, we'd be a 9 to 10 win team.

And if I'm not mistaken, a 9/10 win wildcard team won the last two Superbowls didn't they?

With the extra media attention that Chase is getting he is a better trade candidate. If he plays well in the preseason we may get a couple of nice offers.

You are not mistaken. And if the $23 million continues to pose an obstacle, since $19 million is not enough as the highest paid QB, we may have to duplicate the effort of the last two Superbowl winners, not that there is anything wrong with that! :bng:

Perhaps, but I think we win the divsion without Brees anyway.

I like his fire and ability to make plays with his legs. And if the Saints ran the ball a whole lot more, I agree they would be competitive. But, in the very limited reps I've seen of him throwing the ball, it doesn't make me confident in his overall ability as a starter in the NFL. Best case is them winning 7 games this year without Drew.

Rugby Saint II 05-31-2012 12:38 PM

I haven't seen him throw very much. When Drew was out all Daniels did was hand off the ball. I am curious to know how he looks with the first unit.
I believe that we will go 11 or 12 wins this season without Payton. If we don't have Drew we could still get in the playoffs with Daniels handing the ball to our talented backs. I think with the defense playing better that we could still win 10 games.jmho

TheOak 05-31-2012 01:33 PM

Which brings to question.....

We are almost semi comfortable with out Payton, because he and Drew read each others minds.

If we had Payton but no Drew I would be inclined to agree, play off bound.

No Payton AND No Drew, my confidence wanes.

QBREES9 05-31-2012 02:58 PM

I'd hate to say but this is what happens. Who remembers theQB Brett Frave came in for. What was his name .............. Um oh yeah that guy you know. Yeah....................... Don (MagicMan) Majkowski.
