Roman Harper: Gregg Williams lit a fire, and we won’t let it burn out

“I think we’ve still got that same fire burning up under us. You know, Gregg lit a fire that a lot of us aren’t going to let burn out. A sense of intensity,” Harper said. “And now we understand what it takes to win. Before I don’t think we understood it, and we didn’t have that complete feeling. But now we’ve been to the top of the mountain. We know what it takes to get there. And that’s what we’re trying to do now. It’s either Super Bowl or bust. And we won’t take anything less this year, no matter what our circumstances are.”

I wish he could have taught Harper how to cover.

Harper's problem is that he covers like a Strong Safety, not a Cornerback.

Apparently many don't know the difference.

Roman is pretty much dead on with this comment

GW did teach us one thing, how to play defense aggressively and with a passion, he also found how to best utilise Harper and made him play at pro bowl level year after year

If you watch our defense before GW then with GW, you can see before that we lacked any aggressiveness in our play, spags is going to do great things win our D now!

Folks love Roman Harper when he gets a big hit, a forced fumble (14 career) or a sack (7.5 last season) ... the rest of the time he's a dog. No, he's not an elite pass defender, but the guy is durable (missed 2 games in 5+ years) & makes a lot of stops.

If there were a better safety on the roster, he'd have taken Harper's job by now. Until that happens, I'm pulling for the guy.

I like Harper. I always have. And I LOVE that, in a way, he's sticking up for Greg while just about everybody else wants to see him hang. Good job Roman.

So, it's okay to be a SS and not cover?

As an old school SS Harper is excellent. Stone hands harper is my label for him since year one. As long as he defends the pass all is good. INT's are not his forte.

NFL rules changes have almost put players like Harper out of a job. Pansy ball is killing their job market. Today's SS is more of a tweener FS/CB/LB. that's why they are hard to find. I believe many of the old time pro bowl SS could not survive in today's nfl due to the rule changes.

But every year i wish the same for harper, a jug machine for christmas

No, its unrealistic to assume a SS should cover like a CB.

Harper is a SS and covers exactly like one.

I like the fire and intensity, now if we could just get back to some good old-fashioned tackling I'd be happy.

Catching practice would also help
