Steve Spagnuolo proved in St. Louis that he was overmatched as a head coach but there’s no denying that he’s one hell of a defensive coordinator. That’s why the New Orleans Saints did well to replace Gregg Williams with Spagnuolo when their coordinator position became open last January.

But do the Saints have enough pieces on defense to make Spagnuolo’s scheme work?

I think the defense will have a better year simply on scheme alone. Pair that with no game tape for teams to study against our new defense and we should have a better showing this year regardless of personnel. We have what another month and a half till camp? I can't wait. We will get a better picture then.

No more gimmick stripping and bringing everybody and getting nothing..I'm all for it. But forget about picking up good FAs if Brees gets his big payday. It's going to have to be done on the cheap and that's a lot to ask of Spags. I think it will be better but not by much.

We will need major steps from Cam Jordan and Junior Gallete as stated. We signifigantly helped our LBer corp this offseason and I am content with our starting secondary. Depth there is a major issue if we get any missed starts.

If nothing else, I look forward to more disciplined play from our defenders and less times when the wrong player is left on poor decision island.

I don't see many weaknesses.

We've upgraded most spots on defense and haven't downgraded a single position.

On paper we should be upper middle of the pack compared to other teams.

We haven't had much production out of the front four as I'd still consider it a weakness; but we haven't seen what Spagnuolo can get out of this group...

He got 3 LBs in FA & a DT.... Then we drafted a DT & CB... IMO, Spags is making his mark already. We have a solid base, but he's building on that. I think he's perfect for the job.

All we need is <21 pts per game.

I expect a more balanced defense (not relying on the big turnover) and - eventually - more pressure from the front line.

That being said, Spags has grown from his years in St. Louis. He'll have wrinkles many have not seen.

We seem to have plenty of DE's even without Smith. Sedrick Ellis had better perform or he'll be playing somewhere else next year. We do seem a little bit light at DT and not very deep either.
