Niners RB Frank Gore: No beef with Jonathan Vilma, Saints

San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore says he has no problem with former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams mentioning him in the now infamous audiotape before the 49ers-Saints playoff matchup in January. In fact, he thinks it is a sign of respect. Williams’ part in the bounty episode got him suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

No surprise. He played at Miami, where they have the audacity to believe tough, in your face, physical play is part of the game of football.

Not to mention......calling him "the head" IS a big sign of respect.

True, see the entire SEC, most of the ACC, Big 10, Big 12 and at least about 1/2 of the PAC 10.

Actually he and Frank Gore go all the way back past Miami to being team mates in high school. That sorta bearhug wrapup Jonathan Vilma tackling style that he uses (when he's healthy), Vilma pretty much learned it from tackling Frank Gore over and over in practice his whole life. Those two are very tight.

Besides, Gore is injury-prone whether anybody targets him or not. No hard feelings ...

I'm not surprised that Gore would support his high school buddy. He knows the way Vilma plays. I do like the bear hug tackle that Vilma employs. It is also very popular with rugby players. They may get a first down but they are going down.
