Hard to believe he wants out of here. Sure he wants to get the best contract he can get. He never had a chance to really negotiate his whole career. Just would like to see something creative in his contract that would be the tipping point. I have stuck up for him this whole time. Now I also think he has to have some obligation to the fans he and not let money or plain greed be what keeps him away if they are close moneywise.

where would he go to have a better chance at another ring?...what team is an elite QB away from a SB?...doesnt make sense for him to leave

Where's the Don't Like Button?

Drew is brought to the one team, the one coach who really wants him. He's given a really nice contract in spite of the massive shoulder reconstruction he recently underwent. He then finds out his coach is his brother from a different mother and they get close enough so if one drinks too much, the other needs to urinate. Now let's talk about the town he chooses to buy a home in. A town pretty much shattered yet he still brings his family there. Both he and his wife put their hearts into doing what they can to help rebuild it. No buddy, he doesn't want out. He wants to retire as a Saint. Playing on the west coast is just a bad dream. He's only going for what's due to him in the unreal economy of professional football. It's a stupid ridiculous amount of money, but when you have a legitimate chance of going down as the best of all time, why shouldn't your paycheck reflect that?

No way, he has built this offense. It is designed for him and his style of QB. He has the best chance for success here, especially at this point in his career. He is unstoppable in the DOME.

I don't want to see the Saints blow up the future to get this done, but c'mon!

Drew has already played out a 6 yr 60 million deal. Does anyone think he was only worth $10 million a year (compared with what other elites are being paid) over the past 6 years? Or at least over the past 3?

I would say that he was grossly underpaid the past 3 years.

Dude could have easily demanded a new deal after the Superbowl and didn't.

I think he's trying to do what is best for his family based on his skill level. I also think he wants nothing more than to retire as a Saint. The fact that he hasn't wanted more $$$ before now proves that to me...

Jerry Jones will drop Tony Romo faster than a soiled diaper to have a local boy with Brees' credentials play QB for the Cowboys.

Arizona will drop Kolb as quick for Brees.

Ditto San Fransisco with Smith.

The Vikings still have a good D but no QB, and they did pretty well when they had the old man.

That's 4 "good SB chances if Brees QBs + payday" teams off the top of my head. Then you have the "payday only " teams, and that's a long list.

Dallas is the only scary option, and dropping Romo is certainly feasible. What a terrible thought that is.

Drew wants to get paid. He realizes this is the last contract he will probably have for the rest of his career.

His has NO other options for the next two years other than to accept, negotiate a long term contract, or sit out (un-paid). There is nothing to "want out" of for two years. If he sits out this season, New Orleans can slap that tag on him again next year, and he can sit out again if he decides.

He does not have the option to go to another team or even negotiate with another team. He has an Exclusive Franchise tag.

An "exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position as of a date in April of the current year in which the tag will apply, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. Exclusive franchise players cannot negotiate with other teams. The player's team has all the negotiating rights to the exclusive player.

Drew doesn't want out. I don't know the man of course, but he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would bail over what he and countless others with the Saints have called NFL and Media hyperbole over this so-called 'bounty' crap. No. If Drew wanted out he's say as much.

Drew wants to get as much as he can get, so he's playing the system to achieve that goal. Who among us would do differently?

Now, when training camp opens for real, he had better well have signed something or I'm going to stop liking him, and I know this will hurt him deeply. Until then he should do precisely what he's doing, which is leverage everything he can leverage to get as much as he can possibly get.

Just be there when the unlock they doors Drew. That's all I'm asking.

Payton could be trying to sneak over to Dallas too. Him and Jerry are great friends and he has a home there. I could see him pulling a Willie Beeman and going to Dallas and taking Drew with him.
