The New England Patriots contacted the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of holding joint practices during the teams' training camps, ESPN reported.

"I got a fax from Bill Belichick this morning and we're taking a look at that," interim coach Joe Vitt said Wednesday, who added that he hoped to have a decision in "the next 24 hours or so."

The same teams held joint practices at Gillette Stadium in 2010.

The Patriots and Saints face off in the preseason opener for both teams on Aug. 9.

This must be a message from the past... I haven't gotten a fax in 12 years!

I'd like to think that this is a classy gesture by Bellichick in support of Sean Payton...quite the gentlemanly thing to offer, and reach out to the Saints and coach Vitt. Plus I think of course the Pats would benefit from the practice, but really, keep in mind, the Saints are pariahs right now, outcasts, and Bill Bellichick certainly doesn't have to do this, but he wants to. It's a sign he respects and thinks highly of the organization and the coaches. And like the Saints, he has been on the other end of Roger Goodell's wrath, and he and his team lived and survived to fight another day. See the connections here?
