Im not a math major but 16.6 mil and 2.27 mil don't add up to the 20+mil needed for Brees. Somebody is gonna have to get chopped.

Doesn't always work that way. His bonus will be spread over the life of the contract and his yearly cap hit will escalate each year.

Its possible that our cap could increase by signing a long term deal for Brees.

Drew deserves every dime he will get...BUT... it's going to cost us more than money.
Just like winning has driven up the value on all our components, Drew's kind of money
will limit what's available to be spent to surround him with a supporting cast.
And I can't help but to believe that that kind of money brings its own evils:
jealousy, added pressure, impatience, injuries that come from trying to avoid injury...
With this season unfolding into what may be a hodgepodge leadership dynamic,
I hope our locker room can maintain an atmosphere that promotes success.

or Brees is going to have to take 19. He wants 20 we want 18. Lets split the difference and get this crap over with. Drew if it's really about the city give them a little break this year and tack it on to the end.

I still say Benson needs to get creative- donate a mil to the Brees foundation, let him put a Jimmy Johns in the 'dome, send Rita over to baby sit, anything...
