Gil Brandt's Power Rankings

Packers, Patriots and Eagles top board; Giants at No. 6 - NFL.com

7 -SAINTS

Obviously, this is entirely predicated on Drew Brees being behind center. Without him, this team is almost unrecognizable. That being said, I was extremely impressed with the Saints' focus during the practices I attended last week. This group's doing a remarkable job of handling a traumatic offseason. (For my entire behind-the-scenes look, click here.)

The Saints boast one of the NFL's young stars of the future in tight end Jimmy Graham and a huge matchup problem in running back Darren Sproles. The defense must be better than it was in 2011, though, and I think it will. It's a more sound approach under Steve Spagnuolo -- no more reckless blitzing like under Gregg Williams. One player who could break out: second-year hybrid defender Martez Wilson.

Fair enough

Pretty good all things considered. But we'd be better than the Giants if Elmer Fudd was our HC.

I'm not really a fan of power rankings but I'mma give som thought to anything that Gil Brandt says or writes. I think he is among the best in the business.

SloMotion 06-25-2012 04:10 AM

... wasn't Philly ranked pretty high last season also? I just don't see it, again ... Lions over the Falcons to take the #10 spot, ... the Falcons really do suck,.

I can not agree with Gill on this one....

Player for player, or unit for unit, how do any of those teams rank higher than New Orleans with the exception of San Francisco which has a hell of a lot better defense?
Brees, Sproles, and Graham are better than any of those above us in terms of position vs position.

Gil Brandt has been doing this sh!# longer than most of us have been alive ... and the man knows pigskin. A #7 ranking from Brandt is one heckuva endorsement.

Still, a few head-scratchers there ... the Texans at #5? The Bills at #13?

Crusader 06-25-2012 11:43 AM

I can agree with him on the Texans thou, if Schaub stays healthy. they have some pretty good players all over their team.

They have a head coach.

Ok, Ill give the Pats and Giants one on that item....

I will not concede coaches ability to the Eagles, Texans, or Packers.

And we handled their defense pretty well last year, even with PT knocked stupid.

Turnovers killed us.
