NFL will make no ruling today on players' bounty appeal
This afternoon, Pro Football Talk reported that NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello said Commissioner Roger Goodell would not make a ruling today on the appeals of four current and former New Orleans Saints players. The players are appealing league suspensions stemming from allegations that they took part in a Saints pay-for-performance bounty program.
Goodell conducted the players' appeal hearing in New York exactly one week ago.
Jonathan Vilma, who is facing a season-long suspension if the league's penalty stands, immediately reacted on Twitter after hearing the news.
"What's this guy waiting on? Make your ruling so we can get on with phase 2 already," Vilma wrote.
Aiello's statement came three days after NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith sent Goodell a letter calling for the league to restart its bounty investigation, saying it was "unprofessional, unsubstantiated and incomplete."
