Romeus clears waivers RETURNS to Saints

He'll remain on I.R. for the 2012 season. Best case - he'll return in 2013.

And some thought he "sucked"...

Kudos to the Saints for committing to their draft pick.

I hope he recovers and excels, also thanks to the Saints for not throwing him to the wolves, it says alot.

If i"m not mistaken, they did "throw him to the wolves", it's just that no other wolves were hungry. I too also hope he get's an opportunity.

Romeus came to New Orleans as a seventh-round draft pick in 2011 but with physical question marks. He spent much of the 2011 offseason and regular season rehabbing from a right knee injury he suffered his senior year at Pittsburgh.

Acting head coach Joe Vitt and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo were complimentary of Romeus’ progress this offseason.

On the final day of organized team activities, Vitt said the team would help Romeus in his recovery.

“This kid has really worked hard,” Vitt said. “The whole team feels bad for him, the coaching staff feels bad for him. It’s part of the game. This kid has put in the time, he has put in the effort and he has to go through the whole process all over again. So we’re going to be there for him and we’re going to support him.”

This was two weeks before he injured his left knee. (someone tell that guy to get his fingers off his mouth)

Good call. I was really upset about the new injury, glad to see we have a chance to see what he can do next year. Almost like a draft pick to make up for the lost one(s)...

I have been pulling for him, but have to say I just don't see him on the field. He's made of glass.

lynwood 06-27-2012 10:38 PM

I'm not expecting much but he isn't costing us much either.

saintfan 06-27-2012 10:46 PM

Good deal. Maybe the kid still has a chance. I'd say we use bionics to fix him up right, but Roger would fine and suspend the doctors I'm afraid...

Classy move by the team, they must see something in him. Hope the rehab goes well and he can contribute in 2013

Good that they are helping people out. With the problems this man has had at least he is going to have time to to look for another job. Hard to see someone making it after all these issues but you never know.

As with most of our members I had high hopes for the kid.....I still have hope for him just not high hopes.

TheDeuce 06-28-2012 01:21 PM

This kid was a second round talent without the injuries. Yes yes I know, that is a obviously a big minus, but if he ever finds a way to get healthy, this kid can play. I remember watching him dominate in college.

The thing is that it might not be something he can really work on, as in a modified strength and conditioning training, because it's beginning to seem like "weak knees" might be a hereditary trait he has and as that he might not ever become a force on the NFL level because of that... maybe Arena Football or the CFL.

Naturally I'm hoping I'm wrong and that he comes back next season healthy and durable, and makes an impact in the Saints' front 4.

I really feel bad for him and hope he starts thinking about another career. i mean I would love for him to play in the NFL but his chances are becomin slim to none. Two injuries like that are tough.

That made me think (my wife hates it when I do that)

I know he wouldn't count against the salary cap but does he cost anything? Does he get some kind of salary? Just curious.

Danno 06-28-2012 06:33 PM

Good low risk high reward move. No harm in keeping him around.

alexonfyre 06-28-2012 11:41 PM

Just dunk him in stem cells, he'll be fine.
