Braylon Broughton #62....SAINTS DISCUSSION

Haven't heard as much news as i would like on the kid, but he really excites me. With the recent ongoing injury struggles to Greg Romeus and now put on IR for the 2012 season, anybody see Braylon breaking the 53 man roster and being used on certain packages? i love his size and potential, lets hope something comes of this and he makes the most of this opportunity. Feel free to discuss and chime in with any other rumors/scenarios/ideas/info/visions one may have.

will mark ingram break out?

Who grabs number 4 WR spot? Toon, Morgan, Arrington?

CB situation othe than Jabari and P-Rob who plays nickel and dime packages, of course patrick for the nickel which i cant wait to see perform big this year, but who takes the 4th CB slot? Marquis? Elbert?

How many sacks does Martez Wilson get? my opinion....8-10.5, would be lovely.

Progress of Akiem Hicks? your opinions on what he'll contribute and when...

im anxious and love to discuss these things...TC, Pre-season & opener cant come fast enough. WhoDat!!

Honestly with Joe Morgan, id like to see him become an ace special teams returner and breakout and take that henderson role. sad but Arrington looks like the odd man out, despite hanging in there with us and showing promise. i like him, but im excited with the potential of a toon, morgan, moore, colston, graham threat

If Broughton does break the 53 I think he won't see much playing time unless spags see's massive strides in training camp, enough to put him in the rotation

As for WR, I think Toon is such a polished WR as a ROOKIE, I think its hard not to put him as the 4th, Morgan will primarily be the kick returner.

Toon looks like a baller and doesn't really strike me as a rookie, you see him run routes and catch passes and he looks as comfortable as lance moore doing it.

I think it will be Colston, Moore, Henderson, Toon

Toon will end up catching between 40-50 passes as a rookie hopefully

For DB's i believe its 1.jabari (obviously) 2. P-rob (please keep the dreads shaved man) 3. Johnny Patrick (looked great at the end of last season) and 4. That dude corey white is it? he looks like a very good tackler and has good speed, would be a solid special teams player for now.

Man, If Martez could get even that many sacks it would be amazing, we need a consistent performer at DE

Ive just been watching top 100 of 2012 and demarcus ware is an insane player, 17+ sacks each of the past 4-5 seasons is incredible. If a couple of our DE's can get even half of that, i will be very happy.

I hope Hicks can contribute, If Sedrick ellis continues his lack luster play as of the past 4 seasons I think he should be dropped for hicks by mid season, let hicks and Bunkley have the middle!

haha yea brother, i agree with mostly everything u said. i believe wr will pan out that way and morgan is the guy that eventually creeps in to take a wr spot, most likely from devery, not this year but sometime in the very near future. just looked to good in preseason last year to stay a kick returner. toons gonna be a star.

my only thing i disagree is the 4th CB spot, in dime packages...i cant see corey white getting that spot, at least not this year. i think it'll take a little more time for him than the saints thought...which is exactly why they brought in Elbert Mack, which i think he will do a fine job in dime packages.

thanks for the input!

Scout reports on Broughton say that while he has the physique to be an impact player at the NFL level, he doesn't yet posses neither the skill-set or the mental preparedness to compete at the NFL level.

He is thought to have all the tools, but needs someone to really take him under his wing and teach him how to play the DE position at the NFL level, but fortunately for him Spags might be the best possible person around the league to be that teacher to him. Nevertheless, those same scout reports state that he'd have a hard time breaking into the 53 man roster and should spend his first year or two on a team's practice squad while learning the things he needs to learn.

So, I'd be really surprised if he were to make the 53 man roster, but he'll probably end up being a practice squad guy if Spags sees enough in him to warrant that spot - although, we have to remember that there'll even be a rather fierce competition over those PS roster spots.

As for Hicks, I truly believe that he will contribute significantly during his rookie season, although I'd expect there to be a steep learning curve involved. By the end of the season I think that Hicks will be one of the better DTs the Saints have on their roster along with Bunkley and Johnson. Ayodele will probably have a solid season, but nothing too impressive, and Ellis will probably play his last season with the Saints because if Spags can't get him to play - who can?!

Oh, and Romeus is no longer with the Saints, they waived him. Correction, just saw that he cleared the waivers, my bad.

Romeus cleared waivers and got Resigned by us dude, but yeah agreed with what you wrote, I hope sed gets released after this season, he definitley hasn't warranted the first round pick

Yeah, I noticed that literally right after I posted my reply, hence the correction at the end of it.

Oh and Eliis is on a contract year, so if the Saints don't want him for next year they just won't offer him a contract.

Agree with all the comments before me. Toon has the history walking in Pops footsteps. If he can accomplish that we will not miss Mecham that much so its going to be fun to watch.

I would imagine that Toon will be the 4th WR and White could play in the dime packages. Hicks will most likely start stronger than most people think and will be a force by mid season. Now, as for Ellis I'll be surprised if he isn't traded or flat out released. We are going to be up against the salary cap and he could be a casualty. He hasn't earned his pay check yet and I am always dubious of players that pick it up in a contract year.
