BREAKING NEWS: Rugby Is Safer Than Football

According to David Letterman rugby is safer than football......in respect to concussions.
During an interview with Drew Brees on the Late Show, David Letterman brought up statistics that said concussions happen more frequently to football players.
Football players are taught to tackle with the helmet which leads to concussions. Rugby players have no helmets to use as a weapon. When ruggers tackle they stay away from the head. That will get the player sent off the field every time.
The NFL rule changes will reduce the number of concussions because it will likely change the way they tackle. That and better helmets will benefit the players health.

Maybe the NFL should stop wearing pads & helmets ... for safety's sake ...

Also, there is no blocking in rugby. So you're not taking a blind sided hit while your eyes are on the ball carrier.

And in both sorts of rugby (rugby league and rugby union, they're quite a lot different) there are a lot fewer substitutions - in rugby league, 13 on the field at any one time, out of a squad of 17, and only 12 total substitutions for the whole game - and continuous play, so the really big blokes can't play, not enough stamina.

On the other hand, in rugby league at least there's a lot more tackling. One man in Australia recently managed 63 tackles in one 80-minute game.

Rugby is also a slower sport.

BREAKING NEWS...... I live in England and I can't stand rugby

Ofcourse its safer because it's the game of "no responsibility" if someone is going to hit you, the rugby player just pitches once to side, and it happens every 2 seconds

Sorry dude I was probably being a bit too sarcastic to be honest, if its any consolation I'll admit that rugby players are beasts are do take their fair share of tackles

Common sense or actually the lack of it gives you the false sense of security when wearing a helmet. With a helmet on you have a tendancy to lead with your head. With nothing on your head your more libal to avoid contact with your head unless you're from Chalmette!

Lets remove bumpers, windshields, body panels, and seat belts so people drive slower too.

Well I am a Rugby LEAGUE fan. A bloody tough sport and the tackles are venomous.
